Stu,

Think we might be at a little more brisk pace than you have planned but will let you know if our timelines end up overlapping.

Nice pics Jimmy. Looks like a good trip

My wife is planning a trip to Isla Mujeres late May and we just realized it conflicts with my daughter's high school graduation May 30th. I won't be able to escape until June at the earliest.

Bill,

Understood. The dates are not set in stone by any stretch of the imagination.

I took an epic trip a couple weeks ago. I went outside to take a piss off the deck and didn?t see the flower pot in the dark. I almost fell and spilled my Jack Daniels. Truly an epic trip.

It might have been epic but it wasn't a tragic trip; it was only Jack Daniels spilled.

I came across the thread again when doing a search.

I miss the Discoweb that I remember from 2004-2006 or so. I definitely lost some interest in Land Rovers around 2008 or so but still always had several. I guess I more lost interest in off-roading.

I think one of the key differences is that not many people on here seemingly are not close friends in person which seemed to be more of the case back in the day. I know plenty of us know each other IRL, but only see each other once or twice a year at Rover events. Maybe its time for some Discoweb meet ups.

The Galpin effect.

I had an eventful day. Not an epic trip, but more of a shake down run for my wife's Disco. We went with three of my coworkers to a local OHV area called Rowher Flats (same place that Tacoma on Instagram lost the rear axle a few months ago).

Before we even got to anything challenging one of the silver Discos had some noise coming from the rear. We found the rotoflex coming apart. Fortunately he had a spare. One thing I like about the rotoflex is that it is super quick to change out.

We got to an area with a few challenging hill climbs so we decided to give it a go. My first coworker in the white Disco tried it and didn't make it. I figured I would try. Made it further up than he did and heard a pop from the left rear. I figured I broke a shaft since that wheel wasn't spinning. Went another 6" and heard a pop from the left rear and now only had front wheel drive. I ended up having to winch to get to a flat area to pull it apart. I think I got lucky because both rear shafts broke right at the flange rather than at the splines. I have spares at home but didn't bring them.

It was nice having the broken flanges to use as caps to keep the gear oil in and the dust out for the drive home.

After this I decided to head back with one of my coworkers while the other two decided to carry on. 20 minutes later we get a call that the white Disco broke something in the rear (didn't bother to take it apart since a DII isn't full floating). Guessing he blew up the rear diff.
