When it happened to my truck in 2001, the culprit was TWO fuses feeding the alarm box - one sticky door lock was causing the fuses to blow. And for whatever reason it would do exactly that - the engine would crank but not start. Replaced one of the fuses with a circuit breaker and haven't had this problem since.

That sticky door lock finally gave the ghost yesterday, 11.5 years later.

are all the fuses supposed to have power when the key is in position 2?

I tested the fuses again and not all of them had power continuously. This is on the main fuse panel under the drivers side.

Fuse F4 (30A) in the engine compartment;
Fises F1 (15A), F3 (10A), and F5 (10A) in the Satellite Fuse Box 1.

if it's not the inertia switch then check the crank position sensor..
Any D2 owner's advice here should be taken with a grain of salt. Just as any D1 owner's advice in a D2-specific thread.

I can't possibly see any relationship between a D1 CkPS and fuel pump. The fuel pump should start once the ignition is on, before there's any signal from CkPS.

PM - you are absolutly right! My bad, didn't even look to see it was a D1 and diesel to boot? Please disregard anything I've posted because I'm talking out my ass, again.

No, it's a regular gasoline GEMS truck.
I don't know if your or oneryan's advices are wrong, it's just there are significant differences between D1 and D2 in nearly every respect.

I always thought the SD stood for diesel?
But then why would you need spark? Anywho, I'm out, sorry for the potentially misleading info.

I agree that the fuel pump primes when you turn the key on, but I thought the pump will then not continue to pump if the computer doesn't get a signal from the crank sensor once cranking, or at least the injectors won't fire.

It may be true; but if the ignition was okay, it would at least look like it tries to start. In my experience, it was dead as a doornail despite the starter cranking away. And I read that the spider box disables the starter... Not on my truck.

No spark either without a crank signal. The computer doesn't know what to do without an indication of timing.

I'm not sure if the NAS models even had a spider. My 96 didn't have one and it looks like this 97 doesn't either.
Has anyone actually confirmed that theirs has one?

My 98 did not (that I could find), but that's not saying much. That truck had been molested by so many people before I got it.

Did you ever get this figured out?

I am having exactly the same problem. Changed to a known good CPS...no difference. Fuses all good etc. I might try changing the underbonnet fuse box complete and see if that cures it but it is very strange...first thing i will check wiring from CPS. Did any of you guys cure your vehicles non start issues? Posting updates helps others. Even if the trucks ended up at the junk yard at least we get the idea that 14 year old vehciles with printed circuit boards are not a good thing...

Cheers
