nrc7415 solid lug nuts work on D1?

Hi all,

Our Disco 1 has the standard capped lug nut issues, and they need replacing. I wanted to go with the solid nuts nrc7415, but I'm finding conflicting info on whether these work on later D1s with factory alloys. AB seems to say "yes." RN says "nope":

Flat, non-taper lug nut for early Range Rover Classic wheels 1987-1990 only. Not suitable for later alloy or steel wheels

UK sites are fuzzy, too. Can someone confirm that these will work w/o trouble? They do look like they have much less taper at the ends.

Thanks!

I used them on a buddy’s disco with alloy wheels. They trashed a wheel. I use stock lug nuts but cut that stupid plastic shit off

Thanks, man! Great video. I've read the nut under the cap is some oddball size? Do you know/remember? I guess as long as I can find a socket to fit I can throw that in the road kit. -joe

26mm. They don't look as good as solid lug nuts, but it's a inexpensive and effective solution.

Just closing the loop on this one. For about $70, I got 20 solids from lrparts.net. They look to be totally compatible. I don’t see any way they’d cause problems: the difference in taper doesn’t matter, since the integral washers are the only bearing surface. Spun on and torqued up fine. They measured a hair smaller diameter (-0.2mm), and added about a pound to the old beastie. Now I have a good excuse for being slow up the mountain ;)

Cheers,

Well, we all make mistakes. Just dont say you weren't warned, taper matters.

Always happy to learn. Can you explain it to me? The one post above that mentioned “trashing” an alloy wheel certainly got my attention, but I just can’t see how it could pose an issue other than maybe getting the nuts started into the wheel bores?? All threaded in easily by hand. After that I don’t see any role for the nut ends. The hub flange is flat and obviously the nuts don’t bottom out anyways.

Cheers,

I've got the solid RRC ones on my D1. Also have another 40 RCC solids nuts laying around I should offload at some point. No problems with them on my Deep Dish alloys.
