We just had a garage day, installed three lifts on D1's.
Glad to see you'll be prepping the nuts/bolts with a good PB soak. The hardest part is removing the old hardware.

Everybody has an opinion on shocks. Bilstein 7100's are nice but pricey. A lot of guys stand by OME but they might not have enough travel for a 3" spring. Terra Firma +2's are a pretty decent option, good price and good travel. With the 3" springs and longer shocks you'll probably want extended brake lines though. I just installed some Rancho 9000's but havent had them off pavement yet.
