Crazy. Measure oil out. Put a bit more back in. Noticed drips on garage, so took off skids and there was oil all over.

Cleaned it up and am looking for leaks now. WTF?

No oil around filter that I can see, none around filler cap either, so I don't think I botched the install/refill.

Posting for other experts and perhaps others can learn from my idiocy.

I will have to look closer now. I don't think that the oil change was the culprit. I am guessing that there was something leaking and it just took a month for it to make its way down to drip off the skid plate. Lots of cleaning up needed, but I can see oil pretty high up on the engine. Nothing visible from above.

Definitely front of engine.

That's not good. Hoping it's nothing major. If you need a missile fired into the Tucson sales place where you bought it, I know a guy.

It was Phoenix area, but I own it now.

Looked at a '15 service manual. Guessing it is oil pump. Dang it is crowded in there.

Should I give the dealer some crap? He made a point to tell me his garage showed nothing dripping.

I cleaned it all up and nothing on the ground overnight. Will get under it today and see if I can determine what is leaking, but it sure seems like it is either the thingy that HOLDS the filter or the oil pump. I don't really want to consider anything worse at this point. This issue existed before I owned the vehicle for sure.

Never hurts to call. Be firm but professional. I got a dealership to replace an engine in my Colorado years ago. They tried to talk me into buying a warranty, waiting for a while, then claiming the engine. I refused. Told them not to include me in this, it was between them and the person that traded the truck in.

Might try putting a new oil filter on and be sure the O ring is well seated, and the filter is torqued to spec.

O-ring was good and I was careful threading it. Put rags around area so I did not dip during replacement.

Removed filter after I noticed leak, figured that was the culprit, looked everywhere around the filter hole to see anything fresh. Nothing. Everything up top seems dry, so seems like filter is not likely.

Seems like below filter area. Need to get back under there and see if something has developed since I cleaned it up. Could not reach what might be origin, there was oil up pretty far when looking from bottom.

Yeah I will probably talk to them, but it is not land rover and I have paid and title. It is my problem at this point.

Does not matter the dealership. It comes down to one of two things. Did they know about the issue, clean it up and sell it to you, or did it start after you brought it home. I assume no 30/60/90 day warranty?

Unfortunately no way to prove any of that. I don't think that there is any way that this was not an issue before I got it.

It had to have been there and likely they did not know about it. Nope no warranty.

Its my problem now.

I just want a smaller vs larger issue at this point.

Bri, I hate to be the devil's advocate but that reseller probably brake-cleanered the shit out of the area and happily waved goodbye to you. I hope I'm wrong but that's how these guys move cars. But do not despair, friend, DiscoWeb shall help you make it right. Maybe you just shlozzed a bunch of oil when you did your oil change. Now to make yourself feel better, ask me about my radio....LOL

Shit... its a fvcking car. But, I agree with you.

Mistake buying it? Perhaps, but what the fvck good does it do worrying about it. It is history. Its paid for, time to fix it!

I love my stereo.. for the moment.

My D1 has tiny leaks all over the place and I trust it more at this point, but I would like this LR4 to start out dialed in, so I am kind of committed at this point.

Too lazy today to get under it. But it can sit and perhaps I can see source of leak tomorrow.

If I did not say this, the dealer specifically said not a drip under the vehicle.

Things that make you say hmmm.....

Make sure it’s not those thans cooler pipes up by the small skid plate at the front. . Those leak after you disturb them. Also some cooler pipes that run right over the front diff. They get rubbed thru sometimes
Make sure the o ring in your oil filter cap isn’t leaking. That oil will run down the front of the block. Also the upper timing cover will leak down onto the alternator. That one gets oil all over the place cause the fan and the belt throw it all over the place.
It shouldn’t be that hard to figure out where it’s coming from.

you really sure its not just the gasket for the oil filter housing? thats like a $20 part and can be fixed in half an hour. It's right on top of the timing cover, so it looks like it can be the timing cover when it isn't. My truck is seeping from there (noticed last oil change) and I'm going to fix it soon.

I can only assume that it is not the oil filter as it was completely clean up there and I replaced filter once. Removed to inspect and all was good.

LR says alternator has been drenched and will end up failing.

Oh shit. That really sucks. Is it at all plausible that the sales lot where you bought this truck missed that?

Oh. I think I misunderstood you.

I will double check since I am at dealer.

Where is. service manual for 2016 LR4.

How could I tell the difference? Seems difficult to see in that area.

Edit: It looks like I might be able to tell if I really get up on top.
