Discovery I (1996) 4.0 Litre

I was getting the front engine cover ready for reassembly and as per the overhaul manual I removed the oil pressure relief valve for inspection and cleaning.
It was corroded-in but I did manage to get it out.
I was very careful to remove the O-ring but as soon as I touched it, it crumbled. This was obviously one (of many sources) of oil leak.

Problem is, what size is the O-ring? It isn't listed on Rovers North and I don't want to pay shipping cost for such a small part.
I should be able to come up with one at Advance Auto or Auto-Zone.

Happy Australia Day !!

As far as I can measure it is about 19.6mm in diameter.
I am thinking anything close will probably work.

Right !! I found an "O" ring that basically fits. The newest challenge is to find a way to hold the outer plug into the barrel whilst I install the "C" clip.
NOT an easy task.

I made a stepped rod when I had to do this on the car. best of luck, it sucked
I basically did the same thing. Got a steel rod and pressed the cap into the engine cover and used my chin as a third-hand whilst I fitted the "c" clip.

Finally got it fitted. Whew !!! What a pain !!
With a Land Rover, if you can't fix it, you shouldn't be trying to drive it. LOL

When THIS engine goes wrong (notice I said "when") I am going to do the Chevy 350 conversion !!!

Have 97 D1 SE 4.0 original owner 316K I remember chasing that same oil leak on that housing I think I put sticky grease to keep the barrel valve from sliding out.
