OME 2763 extra HD springs too much for disco 2?

I currently have 1y/o ome HD 2762’s and Terrafirma +3in 4way adjustable dampers. My disco 2 tends to sag pretty badly when loaded with fuel+camping gear. Last weekend the wife and I took our friends out to a local trail (4 people in truck total) and very light gear in back.

I had to slow down on the bumpy fire road because the rear of the truck was rubbing/bottoming pretty badly in a few spots (rear only) I was holding a decent (but acceptable) pace.

I’m considering upgrading to extra HD Old man emu springs, but want to get your opinions first. Truck is decently heavy in the rear, Greg Davis steel bumper, SD roof rack, awning, steel spare and 33” MT, and some misc. gear on top the rack.

thanks!

I had the OME763 Rear HD springs and they were way too stiff for my Disco 2 with steel bumper, fuel tank guard and rock sliders.
I will say the OME763 springs were a lot more beefier than the now installed Terrafirma MD rear springs.

thanks for the reply, I was really hoping to stick with OME. Many have used the 762 without issue, but for me they just don’t seem to be enough.

I have to be so conscious about weight at the moment. I am currently sagged 1” more in the rear vs. front, I am already running 1” rear spacers. I have a drawer system I’d like to install, but I am worried the truck will look ridiculous.

As a serious, nonjudgmental question, if you're concerned about weight have you considered lightening the vehicle rather than increasing the load-carrying capacity of the springs? That's a lot of stuff you have on the truck and you're contemplating adding more. If all that hefty hardware is necessary then it would seem that beefier springs would be the best solution. If you aren't using the hardware for its intended purposes then maybe it's worth contemplating a Disco diet.

Thanks for the reply’s guys.

Tugela- I don’t know of anything I can pull off the truck to make it lighter. Awning, sliders, bumper, rack, traction boards, ladder, rear light, cb antenna, spare tire all functional. I ditched my rear door speaker and the OEM tire iron/jack handle bag, but that’s about the only weight back there I was able to remove.

fishEH - not a huge fan of drawer systems either but this is more of hybrid platform sits over my storage boxes and folds down over the rear seats in order to sleep back there. The D2 has 12” less length than a 3rd gen 4runner with the seats folded and I’m a tallish dude, my alternatives are pitching a tent, or a roof top tent. The latter of which is a no go, I’m not on a safari, I do difficult/technical trails, have F/R air lockers and use them, not lugging a RTT around up there.

Talk to Bill Davis at GBR Utah. He has been doing suspensions and upgrades for 20+ years on Rovers. Has all kinds of goodies for your rig,
Just be patient and budget some time for the call. He is not a man of few words. But he knows what he's talking about.
Or
Gwen Lewis although he's in the U.K.

If you're mixing springs and shocks, the valving in the shocks MAY not match. That might be your problem, but talk to Bill.
