Ok, this one is complicated.

Last summer I got some water in my trans some how, not quite sure, I was in deep water but not as high as the transmission vent. Axles and TC fluids were fine. Anyway, it was in the trans. The oil looked pretty bad, not just like strawberry milk, but actually choclatey brown. I wonder if it was clutch material bringing the brown colour.

I flushed it out, doing 4-5 oil changes on the trans, warming it up, shifting through the gears, full stall on the TC, etc, between changes. I went through a whole 5 gallon pail. I was going to do a filter change, but hadn't gotten to it yet as I stored the truck for the winter.

It drove fine this spring and was going to do the filter change soon. But on Saturday, I lost all drive from the trans. Cruising in 4th gear at about 40mph, heard a whining sound. Shifted to 3rd, revs dropped to idle. Back in 4th, moving fine, stepped on the gas to kick it down into 3rd and it hit the rev limiter. 3rd gear appeared gone. I had to stop at a stop sign, and it was really jerky, could barely keep it moving. Just had to go a few miles to meet some people who were going on a trail with me.

All this time, CEL and S+M are NOT on.

I was only 5 miles from Land Rover Salvage, so I determined to take it there in low range, but I didn't get far. Lost all drive, all gears, including reverse. Some buzzing sound coming from the trans. The guys towed me to LRS where he read the codes, and I got these 3. (at least, I think it was these 3, Autologic output the written description, and I had to reverse lookup).

Figuring it was finished, I left the truck there, and came back a few days later with a truck and trailer. Much to my surprise, I was able to drive it right onto the trailer. Felt normal. Had trouble holding the truck back with the brakes in low-range which is normal when the engine is still at a high idle from cold.

I dropped it off at a trans specialist, to have them do a power flush, but they say they don't do that anymore because it wrecks trans. At this point... I was going to try driving or towing it home, and doing the trans filter change and flush it some more.

I can't find much info on the P1612 code. Nothing in the search here, and not much on Google. The P0705 Range Switch is weird to have if I'm expecting a clutch problem. P0741 makes sense for what I expect has happened to the trans.
