P38 and Rust

For those in salt country, how do P38's compare to the RRC, D1 & D2?

Body dies, frame ok like D1?

Body ok, frame dies like D2?

Something else entirely?

I really don't see a lot of them anymore. But I think better than a Disco1 as far as the body rust goes. The Disco2 has a steel door skin on a steel door frame. So I think the body holds up a little better on the Disco2. But the frame rotting thru like the Disco2 seems like it more than makes up for that.

in 20 years of parting out Rovers I have never seen a p38 that had horrible rust.
Yep. One of the design criteria was to make the P38 significantly better than the Classic for rust prevention. LR finally accepted that the RRC rusted from within if actually used in salt environments like New England where most were sold.
Also why my RRC hibernates in a heated garage during most of the Winter. If the back road by us is totally snow covered before the plows/salt come out I’ll drive it as the B-W transfer box is awesome in snow.

The P38 is much better at resisting rust than most other Rovers. I've seen LR3s and L322 rust worse. I have three that have seen snow country, and found the following:
00 California for most of its life, New Jersey for a couple years: Spotless underneath
01 Bounced between New Jersey and Florida for most of its life: slight rust on the exhaust flanges and bolts; some corrosion on the bolts and aluminum parts under the hood
02 That spent most of its life in New Jersey and Ohio: some bubbling on the rear wheel wells and bottom of the tailgate; Surface rust on frame, brake lines, most bolts, axles, etc.
