I've been experimenting with paint for Radius arms on the truck I'm building. I don't like the cheap ass rattle can paints I've tried so far. As I remember them they looked dark black, but has a texture to them. I have painted them a satin finish and it just doesn't look right. I'm thinking about changing out my blast media for glass beads hoping that it peens the surface to make it textured then painting it black. Zack if you have access to a stock replacement can you take a close picture of the surface of one for me. For that I could find some cool Newfy something you could add to your trinkets and trash.

I can't tell if this was meant as a thread or a PM to me, but I can check tomorrow. Not sure if you'll find anything to match the original finish, but maybe close enough?

Thanks Zack. That helps. I wonder if that's how they looked before they hosed them down with that cosmoline wax stuff. That stuff looked like a light brown.

I don’t think you’ll find a more durable finish that you can spray on than 2k epoxy. The SPI stuff I’ve been using is about a semi-gloss finish.

Thats not a bad idea. Do you buy it in a spray can? Or do you mix it and use a gun?

Mix and spray with gun. Epoxies don’t contain isocyanates like urethanes, so you won’t accidentally gas chamber yourself. Cheap gun and respirator is enough.

I seem to remember people on the Defender forum using a lot of Eastwood Chassis Black. I think the previous owner of my D90 did it with the axles and suspension and it still looks okay after 5 years in the north east.

What does it mean when Eastwood calls one of the products 2K Ceramic Chassis Black 30% Gloss. It's the ceramic part of all that that's confusing me. I would really like to not buy a paint gun right now for this project. I figure since its just a handful of suspension components I could cheap out.

So now I see Eastwood makes something they call extreme chassis black and in that description they call it epoxy adhesion. I'm going to go with that and get some help spraying them.

I don’t see a TDS for it, so I’m guessing it’s marketing bs. Probably just your average epoxy enamel.

I believe that is a lacquer so it will not be chemical resistant and should probably be used with their matching primer.

I also noticed that POR 15 sells something in a spray can they call chassis black. I've used that stuff before and They have a distributor near my work. But I don't see where they call it an epoxy. And when I've used that stuff its to paint something to stop rust. Kind of not what I'm looking for. I've been looking at the descriptions of some of these products and have to assume if they don't say epoxy, or 2K in the name it's just paint. One product I found claims it has a 2 chamber system that is going to mix the 2 parts while it comes out of the can. That just sounds like a shitshow to me.
