Hello again Everyone,

All of my exhaust pipes and mufflers have arrived - the complete system. Thanks again for the tip to clean and spray the welded joints with a galvanized paint.

Can I use a few cans of high temp paint to paint the entire exhaust pipes that includes the cats and muffler?
That would be Everything Exhaust related. I want this exhaust to be far removed from premature rust, and not sure what can / cannot be painted.

Thanks

it cant hurt. I don't think any paint will stay on the cats as they get hot as hell. any good header paint should stand up to all but the highest heat areas.

Thanks for the response rover rob,
I just though why not hit it up with some paint since I will be painting over the welding joints anyway.

I have a few cans of this Rustoleum High Heat Paint so I will give it a go. Its rated for 2000 degrees F.

Thanks

I picked up the y-pipe with cats from eBay. Give the company my VIN# as they are made to spec.

All remaining pipes / mufflers are from Lucky8. I ordered from his eBay. You will not find the y-pipes with cats on his regular site nor eBay store. You need to call him for that but they do offer the complete system with clamps.

I picked up a pair of exhaust manifolds from Paul Grant (not arrived yet) that he blasted with glass beads and followed it up with some black paint. Cant go wrong with Paul Grant. :)

And that is the absolute complete exhaust system.

I highly doubt paint will last any longer than zinc plating on non-stainless exhaust systems. Much rust develops from the inside due to high-temp gases and moisture. Stainless is the way to go if you want lasting corrosion prevention.

i'm not so sure. The back half of my D2 exhaust is original, and has very little rust (no rust-through spots at all) after 20 years and 330k miles. I'm in So. Cal, so there's very little rain/snow/salt. That makes me think that if you're seeing rust problems, it's from external factors, rather than exhaust gasses.

TL/DR: Paint it.

Wish my D1 had spent a dry and salt free life on the west coast, instead just the opposite being in the mid-west with lots of rain/snow/salt/other snow melting agents that eat metal.

Thanks
