Is that lake Meade? Sand is different out here, just walking on it you’ll sink to your ankles on certain beaches.
That's Competition Hill in Puerto Peñasco, Mexico (aka Rocky Point). Steep climb up constantly shifting beach sand. Really soft stuff. The D2 made it fine years ago and the LR4 struggled with the wimpy tires I have...until I really put my foot into it.

Ok that’s way cooler. I regret not going down to Mexico when I drove my keep out west a few years ago.

This is my 2nd D1. Had 2 RRC. It is minor compared to the first. So been there done that for 28 years. It has rear ARB locker, rockware trailing arms, rockware track rod, rockware pinion guards, rockware frame sliders, rockware cat guard, OME HD lift. New 235/85. 4.11 gears.

Interior is 6/10. Solid engine.

Make me an offer. The parts might be worth.pushing $3500. Add almost new tires. Pushing 4k worth of stuff. Decent disco, needs a bit of work. How about you take it for 7500?

Trying to get to 1 vehicle that is capable with access height for wife.

I hope the 2001 RR H&H details out nice. Rare vehicle. Really cool, but not perfect. All working though including EAS.
Sounds like a very nice Rover and priced well. I’m good with my ‘96 D1 and ‘94 RRC LWB. Thx.

I’d still keep one of them (Disco) and deal with the niggling issues. Yet I don’t like vehicles with screens and what not.

I should probably bump the price by 500 considering new tires. If it goes to someone that can properly beat the shit out of it, all for the best. I just don't need that now.

14-16 have a two speed t case with the HD package. you also get a rear locker. look for the up down arrows on the lower right hand of the terrain response knob. if it's a blank plate, it doesn't have low range and you can move on to another. so many trucks aren't listed with the HD package or low range, so photos are your best bet too quickly move on or look into a specific truck more.
How do I tell if there is HD on 2013.?

If memory serves me well on the LR4 look and see if it has a full size spare on an alloy wheel. In 2013 at least, that was only included on the versions with the HD package, including the locker diff.

Someone else might also chime in.
I can’t figure out what trim levels give and take anymore. It used to be HSE stood for Highline Special Edition. Now the HSE badge seems like it gets slapped on everything and the more letters they add after that makes them more Highline than the next. But i always thought the full size spare was part of the trim level. You bring up an interesting point about the HD package though. If I was doing HD stuff with my LR4 a crappy space saver would not do. And I’m sure JLR figured it that way too.

You don't need a "lift." 265/65-18s fit just fine without any mods besides figuring out a spare solution.. whether its shoving it up in the stock location almost flat or getting a tire carrier which you already plan on.

I like APT's skids/slider, but I haven't bought any yet. Going to start with the front and air compressor ones, the factory gas tank and "front diff" pieces are plenty adequate for overland-style use IMO.

For the roof, I have a set of Yakima bars, and might end up with some sort of cheap platform on top of those. What I like about the Yakima bars is that I can leave the "feet" on the stock roof rails and pop the bars off in seconds so I don't have to drive around every day with a sail on my roof. I'm going to be putting an 8ft awning, probably maxtrax, and some sort of water storage/shower thing up there.
Are APT available in USA?

What is the vin designation for HD? That would make it easy.

If you look up SALAK2V60EA717645 for example, you'll find "Rear Axle Differential - Rear Axle Locking Diff [027CC]" and "Spare Wheel - Underfloor - Spare Wheel Alloy Full Size [029IR]" in the speccodes.

Oh I got ya. Yeah I can pull the whole build sheet and when everyone does his job I have one stapled to a repair order when I get it. I thought maybe there was one vin character that singled it out as HD. That would be too easy

What are you going to do with the 98 LSE? :D

Sell it. If I had time, energy and space i would keep. It is a driver not some perfect restore. Same with 01 H&H. Both can go ASAP, price might vary about 2k depending on effort I put in before sale.

Both have all fluids, belts and hoses in past year (I think).

So....that is an HSE LUX with locker... good factoid.

On my new LR4 I just installed 255/65R19 Duratracs (32.1" ) but haven't dropped to bumpstops yet to see how fucked I am.

So I dropped it down to the bumps today. The front roll but rub when turning. The rear are resting on the wheel arch liner where it bulges out at the front. I measured and I'd have to add 1.75" of backspacing for the 255 width tires to clear, so my 0.75" spacers wont be enough. There are solutions, some already mentioned, but I'm evaluating my next move.

You need spacers to clear what? I figured the 255 width with stock offset would be fine, the only issue would be height.

These trucks have such tiny wheel wells.

To clear the bump out in the rear wheel well liner that covers the rear heater lines. 1.75" spacers should do it, and many have gone that route to simultaneously fit LR3 18s, but I wont be. I also decided against going with the SYA kit that reduces up-travel by 2", which is lame. The only remaining options are to cut the front chassis protrusions shorter and reroute the rear heater lines, or go for aftermarket 18s and 31" tires.
