I've created a Politics forum for DWeb. This is the new home of the Donald Trump thread, Russian meddling thread, and any new threads that start as or turn into poitical threads.

There are a couple of things to note about the new forum:

- This is not D90 Source. We don't have an opt-in Mud Pit or any faggotry like that. Everybody can see this forum--it's just separate from General.

- Posts in the new forum do not display in the Most Recent Posts box on the right side of the page.

- Politics is not the guns forum. We already have a forum for guns.

This change has been a long time coming. I've talked to a number of DWeb old-timers who've left the boards in the last few years and I've asked them why they don't come here anymore. While it is true that many have sold their trucks and gotten out of Rovers, there are also many that got sick of the political threads. My intent with the new forum is to take General back to what it once was: general BS, shit-talking about random subjects, and interesting things to read and listen to.

I can count the number of regular posters who post on the political threads on two hands, so I doubt anybody will care.

Thanks Chris! I was thinking the same thing recently, The most popular threads on here are all political and have nothing to do with Rovers.

I'm not sure how segregating a single thread from the entire site somehow preserves the integrity of the entire Deweb.org works, but hey you own it.

I think it's a good idea.

The content is popular enough to have it's own spot, and thus help prevent it from taking over other sections.

Less policing than other options, popular topics, and a new-guy friendly general section.

Win/Win, I think.

Cheers,

Kennith

I like the idea, and think overall it is good to segregate that discussion from the rest of the community interactions-I tend to see a very different dialogue even among us that are neck deep in the politics discussions in other parts of the forum. That's a good thing.

I don't care one way or the other. Don't really buy the ole timers leaving the site due to political threads. No one is making them read those threads. I mean, if they are unable to control themselves then they must have a hell of a time surfing the web and going through their email.
Don't like something, don't read it.

Brett,

You may have noticed the list of active threads - in the last two years, the DT Rally in Colorado thread completely dominated this list. On average, I should say, out of 15 active threads listed, three top ones were political, +one or more tangentially-gun-related.

Personally, it was annoying as fuck to me. I didn't do anything and never mentioned it to Chris - but I guess it was annoying to him as well. Forum-wise, it is easier to aggregate all this stuff in the separate section and exclude it from the list of active threads.

Makes sense?

Speaking of tangentially-related - for me a "Glock vs. Sig" thread is mostly-technical, but a clearly Second Amendment-related thread should be posted in Politics section. "Gun style in the media" is, to me, leaning towards the Politics category.

I know that I said "Ugh" out loud, more than once, upon seeing the Trump Rally thread under Most Recent Posts. So, kudos to Chris for moving that out of the limelight.

I think there should be a thread where we all squawk about what category every thread should be in.
Will there be a STFU section?

So what annoys you? Having to see that thread title in the right hand column and ignore it? Or is it that politics has worked its way so deeply into Dweb?
Just curious because to me a political thread is no different than an LR4 thread. I look down the right column and ignore 1/2 to 3/4 of the threads.

Its actually a coping mechanism. I'd be in the looney bin if I didn't ignore all the stupid shit.

No, no.

management creates and promotes stupid shit.

I'm at that management sweet spot in the middle. I get to filter all the stupid shit from above me down to my guys, and filter all the stupid shit from my guys to those above me.
