When parked, engine running; if I turn the wheel I can hear a whinning coming from the general area of the power steering pump. Is that normal, or something I should have checked out. Still under warranty. Thanks. Glad to have D-Web back. Been holding that question for a few days.>JB

That's a common sound on every vehicle I've ever owned. When you try to turn past your steering stops it puts more load on the power steering pump which gives you that whining noise. It's normal.

if the sound is something you've just noticed, then I'd have it checked. Yes a pump will make noise, but excessive noise can be an indication of a blockage, or low fluid level.

That's true. However, if the fluid level is low or there is blockage the pump should be louder all the time. I'm definately not saying you shouldn't have it checked out though. If you've done that before and didn't notice the noise and it's there now get it checked out.

Thanks guys. Seems louder than before. I try not to ever turn the wheel all the way. My dad said that was bad when I was little and he got the point across. I just have to find the power steering fluid resoviour(sp?) under the mud and pine straw.>JB
