PPQ vs. VP9. Decisions, decisions.

I've had my eye on a new pistol lately. I had liked what I had seen of the Walther PPQ M1 in 9mm. A local range has one in the rental stable so I gave it a spin. I was pleased with its function and performance.

They also had an HK VP9. As expected, it was flawless and easy to shoot.

I had hoped to come to a conclusion, but I'm no closer to picking my next social pistol. I'm not really seeking advice; I suppose I just wanted to prattle on about it.

Both. I'm tired of tiny guns for CCW. I had gotten lazy and now I want to reverse that. I used to conceal a P226 under a t-shirt, for crying out loud. So, I know it can be done. One just has to want to badly enough.

I hear what you are saying. I've been carrying my fn5.7 alot lately. It's pretty a good size pistol but it is very light for it's size and capacity.

Honestly, I think they both look hideous. I can't ever remember thinking a Glock looks better than any other semi-auto, but it does. They both look like they are trying too hard to be cool.

I don't understand this. You actually want to carry a larger pistol for CCW? Why is a large 9mm better than a small 9mm?

Keep in mind that I think anything larger than a Seecamp is too big for CCW.

I know; it doesn't make any sense. I suppose I'm looking for a "fighting/service" pistol as opposed to a "get off me" pistol.

Regarding the looks of the two in question, I think they look fine. They're not a ring hammer P35 or a Triple Lock, but considering what's foisted on us these days they are handsome in a P226 no-bullshit way.

I just wince when I see the finger grooves and the notches on the front of the slide. Both of them look too zombie killer to me. It's bad enough that every pistol out there has a picatinny rail.

I understand. I'm Glocked out, the M&P has an annoying woodpecker hole in the barrel hood, the FNS feels like a brick to me, and the SIG 320's action feels like a plastic stapler.

Shootability and capacity.

But I think variety is best. Sometime I want a full size, sometimes I want my G27, and I'm hoping that Glock makes a 9mm version of the G42 so I can have something small.

+1.
Stu, a P226 is a beautiful thing.

Peter, I know. I've spent many days carrying one. Without the E2 grip the trigger reach is just a bit too long, even with the short trigger. And in my opinion, the E2 modification ruins the lines of the gun. Also, I'm not convinced the New Hampshire guns are as good as the German ones.

i use a 9mm Px4 sub-compact. Its a bit wide, but works for me. My buddy uses a Ruger lcp and i must say id go the .380 route if i could do it again. just throw it in your pocket and be on your way. It's remarkably accurate. I'm just a civilian so i dont plan on getting behind cars and shooting it out though.

You're right, of course. I don't need a "fighting" nine, but I want one. I have no delusions of running fights; the extra capacity is nice if I can't beat the police standard of 50% accuracy in a fight.

What did you end up on deciding?

Nothing, so far. I always hem and haw on decisions like this. I really dig the PPQ M1, the HK is....well, HK, and I love old, Kraut P226's but the trigger reach is just a bit too long.

The dark horse is an early 90's 3rd generation DAO 5900 series S&W. Those guns are the chick with glasses in high school. You don't pay much attention to them. But if you give them a try, they'll blow your mind. Reliable, accurate, reliable. Did I say they were reliable?

I am pretty sure one of the pastors at my church has one of those. I didn't realize that pistol should be really appreciated that much.
