The passing of Common Sense

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape.

He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as knowing when to come in out of the rain, why the early bird gets the worm, life isn't always fair, and maybe it was my fault. Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you earn) and reliable parenting strategies (adults, not children are in charge).

His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a six-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.

Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job they themselves failed to do in disciplining their unruly children. It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer Aspirin, sun lotion or a sticky plaster to a student; but could not inform the parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.

Common Sense lost the will to live as the Ten Commandments became contraband; churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims. Common Sense took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar can sue you for assault.

Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement. Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents, Truth and Trust; his wife, Discretion; his daughter, Responsibility; and his son, Reason.

He is survived by three stepbrothers; I Know My Rights, Someone Else is to Blame, and I'm A Victim.

Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone. If you still remember him pass this on. If not, join the majority and do nothing.

He will be laid to rest next to his close cousin, Common Courtesy.

This is sad news indeed, but I saw it coming so I am not at all surprised.

Yes, I am officially off the V-22 Program now :) Don't laugh, but last week I was diagnosed with pnuemonia (spelling?) and have been pounding anti-biotics since. I am hoping to have this crap purged from my body before I start the new gig on Friday.

I used to think like that.....afterall I have 2000+ hours flying on Sikorsky Products (-53 A/D/E; SH/HH/VH-60). One STOL in an Osprey and you'll never go back...LOL.

The Marines I talk to in the Field are very very excited about their new workhorse, the H53K. I just hope that NAVAIR is smart and utlizes the same RR Engine, MFD's, and 5000psi MOOG Hydraulics as the V-22 for supportability commonality.

What is with the V22 anyway? Are they going to keep building it? The politics and stuff.....But I keep seeing photos of them at airshows in Europe!

The Marines are kicking ass with their new V-22. With over 40 of them in the field; the Marines are standing up the first true fleet squadron. Secondly, The Marines flew two V-22's over to participate in the Farnborough Air Show. They did not go by boat, they flew.

As for politics, it has been approved for Full-Rate Production. Unfortunately, IRAQ and Afghanistan is hurting the overal procurement budget.

Maybe I should take your old user name. :D

That would lead to some interesting confusion eh?

You know, this would be a lot funnier if people would learn the truth about that event and quit perpetuating the "poor picked on McDonalds" bull shit.
There are so many real examples every day that there's no reason to include something that isn't true. But, it sounds like a great story of why tort reform is needed, so people keep passing it round.

Didn't y'all know that Land Rover "saved" the V-22 program?

One of ROAV's former members flew Harriers out of Cherry Point. (He buzzed the MAR site once at about 50 feet...and about 450 knots.) While attending some military hardware trade show in DC when plans for the Osprey were still 'on paper', he saw a display of the proposed craft. Now one of the greatest criticisms of the entire program was that the cargo hold was too narrow to carry a Hummer. There, on the blueprints for all to see, he saw the unmistakable outline of a 110 in the cargo bay....

Cheers

My first post. I have been woking on the V-22 for a number of years at Bell Helicopter. I beleive we are producing 12 to 14 ships a year in Amarillo. They are cool to watch fly.

I'm confused, I thought Boeing was building the V22? Is it a joint venture? I'll need to hear from Paul (F18guy) on this.

Boeing builds the fuselage and Bell builds the wing, nacelles, rotor system and does the final assembly.

There ya have it sportsfans. The Osprey is a joint partnership between Bell and Boeing. The folks at Amarillo have an incredible facility which to perform final, shakedown, and flight for delivery to the customer.

I have some good friends working down there, making it happen :)
