hello all. wondering if anyone knows whether or not a 225 75 16 tire will fit in the stock spare tire holder on a 93 lwb. this is the carpeted cardboard tire cover that actually covers the spare. along with the back cargo cover. so basically will it fit in the back spare tire carrier with all the stock gear in back?????

thanks all

My 1992 SWB RR has a 225/75/16 in the stock tire spot. It fits no problem.

We just fitted 245/75-16s to my son's 91 RRC. The stock tire is 29" diameter. For the 245s the seat belt tensioner was in the way. Solution was to move the tensioner up about 2 1/2" with a flat strap built from L shaped seat belt brackets with two holes, hammered flat. The strap follows the same angle as the tensioner, angled forward towards the rear seat. This bracket was then mounted with the stock tensioner bolt. In the other hole, now about 2 1/2" from the original hole I used seat belt mounting grade bolt inserted facing out, mount tensioner, then nut. With the forward angle you don't gain 2 1/2" but enough to fit 245/75-16s in the spare tire wheel wheel.

No pictures of the install. It was pretty easy once you locate the pieces. The primary issue is that all components should be high strength material, not your typical hardware store stock. I was lucky enough to have some old seat belt brackets, bolts and nuts. I guess a local auto store should carry similar stuff. All you need is one bracket with two holes, one bolt, washer and nut. You reuse the original tensioner mounting bolt to mount the flat strap.

Now my only issue is the load space cover. The 245/75-16's are wider which reduces the space between side panel covers. Might need to trim the cover a little.
