Can someone get me a code for the radio with my VIN?

I am having trouble getting the dealer here to give me one. Its my rover that I just sold to a buddy and we are putting a new battery in tomorrow and I know I am going to need the code.

I had it written down somewhere but cant find it it started with a 3 :D

Mine was written on the side of the radio itself. Had the dealer pop my radio out due to a lost code and realized someone wrote it on the radio case. I guess if someone steals it, they can have the code.

You can do to dealer, they can get the code from your VIN.
I know I can I was hoping someone here could give it to me. The truck is not registered or insured at this time and the dealer has no problem giving me the code as long as I bring it by. I can bring him the title and he still needs to see the truck  :banghead:

Every radio has its own code.

If a radio was swapped out and nobody updated the record for the vehicle in LRNA database, you have a problem!

I know how it all works.. This is the stock radio from that truck, I just needed someone to look it up thats all. Thanks though. I called a dealership in another state and they gave me the code, all is good.

Contrary to popular belief, I?ve had an experience to say otherwise. That was my understanding when I got my 98 Disco a year ago. Take the radio (or vin, I can?t remember) to the dealer and they will give me the code. Mine wasn?t registered at that time, so no registration to show proof of ownership. Talk to the service manager, he took my info, looked it up in his computer, then gave me the code. Got home, plug in the radio, punch in the code, bang, radio turned on, I?m happy.

Fast forward several months from that, I saw a auction on eBay for a 98 owners manual. Won the auction, then got my manual in the mail. As I?m searching through the owners manual, I came across a plantlet for the security coded radio. To my surprise is was the exact radio code I was given at the dealer several months earlier.

If the statement is true that every radio has their own code, how can my 98 have the exact same code as the 98 owners manual I got from a complete stranger on eBay? I?m thinking maybe the same year model share the same code.

Mikemeyer0, since you have a 98 like mine, try this code 36353 and see what happens.
