I removed a set from a D2 and installed them on my D1. The D2 trim is a bit longer and a bit taller they can be easily trimmed. Best time to remove them is on a warm day as plastic is more fragile when it's cold outside.

Remove them, then paint the metal rail black. This is what I did on my D1 and it looks great. Plus, you won’t need to worry about rust developing under the rail trim.

I used trim lock l shaped trim on one of our discos. 2 sizes. One is slightly shorter than the lip. The other is a bit bigger than factory. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01CJRH1BC?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title

Did you use the shorter or longer one?
