2.5NA diesel, not in a Land Rover.

I need to reduce the amount of force it takes to open the throttle. I have a servo attached where the regular throttle pedal would connect, but there's too much force required to get past idle. Can I unwind the spring on the high pressure pump to reduce the force?

I was hoping the spring was wound up before being attached to the shaft and bracket, but I took apart my old CAV pump and found it's just a really tight spring. My fish scale shows it takes 10 lbs of force to move the throttle cable.
Good news is Grainger has a selection of torsion springs and I'm working on getting one to replace the factory spring.
