Removing catalytic converters?

This question is just a curiosity. I recently purchased a 96 D1 parts rig. Hoping to recoup a little money, I was going to cut off the cats and sell them to the metal recycler. However, a previous owner already removed them and welded in a straight pipe.

O2 sensors are still there and hooked up. I assume this would cause a code, correct?

Correct. Codes can be prevented by using spark plug non-foulers, essentially a small spacer, if you can find them in the correct thread.

That's the trick, isn't it? The D1 O2's are a bastard size, at least when it comes to O2 threads.

Yes, and AEL trucks are different than non-AEL, IIRC.

I used these. O2 Bushings
Doesn't throw codes.

So, I pulled the Y pipe with the welded in pipes to replace the converters yesterday. It’s actually really well done and in great shape. I also have the rest of the exhaust that looks to have stainless Borla muffler installed. Doesn’t look like the pipes or the muffler has many miles. If anyone wants it, let me know. It would be a really low cost complete system.
