I need to remove part of the drivers side carpet in the foot-well in my DII to fix a small rust spot.

Ive never pulled the carpet there before so dont know whats involved to get access to it.

Do I need to pull the seat and the center console as well to get enough room to weld in there?

Thanks for any help,

Nick

I'd pull the whole front carpet section out.

Obviously, it's best to remove it during welding. You aren't going to do a good, clean job if you're screwing around with a carpet in your way.

Even if you could, the carpet is molded into shape, and they molded the immortal fuck out of it. I'd be wary of bending it in too many directions.

While it's pulled, you can fix the spot that's about to go bad on the other floor panel. You're screwing around with it all anyway, so you may as well be thorough.

All you really need to remove the entire carpet is a bit driver, a few sockets, two pieces of paper, a pen, and a fork.

Nothing special is required. Well, nothing I can remember, anyway.:D

The D2 seats are held by 3 bolts that go into fixed nuts, and for some bizarre reason there is one bolt that goes through the floor pan and has a nyloc nut on it.

I found this out when I wanted to remove my wet carpet, but my gas (LPG) tanks cover that single bolt.

Centre console, obviously and the side trims over the sills.
