I have a '99 Disco 2 with 78k miles and the service engine light has been on for a couple weeks, just yesterday it started blinking, the engine started idling rough and stuttering when I give it some throttle. I got the codes read:

P0174 - System too lean (Bank 2)
P0300 - Random misfire detected
P0301 - Misfire in cylinder 1
P0305 - Misfire in cylinder 5
P0306 - Misfire in cylinder 6
P1300 - Manufacturer control ignition system or misfire

Any suggestions???

o2 sensors are working fine. They are telling the car that there is a misfire and the engine is lean, and

as proven by the BLINKING Check engine light

That the cat is being overwhelmed and melting.

My Bet, stuck open injector.

Not sure. Not enough details. But, the fact the SES light was flashing lead me to think injector overfueling.
Only one bank was lean, it is possible to have a injector leaking on one side, and a lean condition on the other side.

Flashing SES lights are, in my experiance, stuck injectors

Series 2 Discos are a hassle to get the injectors out of.

What I would do is connect a fuel pressure gauge to the fuel line. Turn the key to number 2 and pressurize the rail. I don't remember off the top of my head but I'll look up the number of PSI your looking for.

But, what your REALLY looking for is bleed off. After it's pressurized, turn the key off and watch the instrument. If a injector is leaking, the pressure will drop.

That isn't the only cause of pressure drop. A bad check valve in the pump could cause it too, but the symptoms would be a Long Crank On Cold Start, not a misfire code.

If the pressure bleeds off, Take out the fuel rail with the injectors still attached, adn pressurize---turn off again. Watch for fuel dripping.

ANY fuel dripping is a failure. Best bet is to replace all 8 if one is bad, just so you don't have to do it again.

This is where working in a well equipted shop is helpful.

I worked at a shop with a borescope. Same check involved taking out the spark plug, stucking it in and watching on the Monitor.

That easy to get used to. :)

Please Help!

I have the same problems with mine....bank 1 and bank 2 are running too lean...It says the engine is misfiring....but no indication that it is. Wouldnt the engine run much much different? The only problems I am having is knocking..low idle...sick feeling gas pedal...I cleaned the MAF and the light disappeared..ran better...then, the light came back on...same issue

My 97 D1 was acting like this (though it didn't send a flashing CEL, but my CEL runs constant 24/7 :D ).

Turned out the plug wires were rusted at the boot and were only making intermittent contact with the plugs. Fouled the plugs up as well.

Just a (cheaper) thought.

Is there only one MAFS on a DII? If so, where is it. Where to get it? Thanks. I hope I find it in one loss.

Right....For some reason I had a brain fart....I tryed cleaning it again last night...no change. I thought it ran better when I had cleaned it about a week ago. The light went off. Would this be causing it to run lean though?
I really appreciate it. Thanks

My thought was that when you cleaned it the first time, things got better for a bit, then went back to shit. Cleaning the MAFS as a permenant solution really only works less than half the time. Yes it could be causing your lean condition.
