Rovertracks Rear Axle Spacer Measurement Needed

I broke both rear axle shafts on my wife's D1 today and have some HD replacements that I believe to be Rovertracks. I went to install them and found that they are too long and require a spacer at the drive flange. I would like to know the thickness of the spacer if anyone here has any that they could measure.

No. That pic is at leastv6 years old. I think its mild steel. No reason to be anything exotic

You probably know, but that flange spacer setup is extra sensitive to the correct sealer. RTV will let it twist and cause bolt problems

What is the correct sealer? I figured you would just need the correct bolt with a large enough shoulder to prevent it from moving at at. I was planning on using Right Stuff.

Anerobic gasket maker. Havent had good luck with right stuff on things that transmit torque

It wasn't anything crazy. I bought a disco from a guy here (classic old school DWeb build) that has 33" all terrains on it. This was a shake down run as I got the truck in pretty much non running condition. I was doing a hill climb and heard a pop in the left rear. The right rear was still spinning, so I figured I snapped the left shaft. I tried to move forward and then lost the right rear. I'm hoping I didn't destroy the Detroit.

Do the stock shafts usually break at the flange? I was thinking they usually break at the splines.

Honestly, I was pretty surprised that they broke. I don't know how the truck was driven in the past, but I've definitely driven my Defender much harder with 8.25r16 XZLs and a Detroit.

Went to the junk yard today and got some shafts to throw in. The Detroit is done. I guess I'll probably put a TrueTrac in the rear since you can't get Detroits anymore.

I was wondering about that. It might explain some things. Loading and unloading the axle might make it snap like that and not twist at the splines.

Robert, what kind of bolts are used on these shafts? The truck already has allen headed bolts but they do not have a shoulder at the flange, they are threaded all the way to the head. I don't know if these are the bolts that came with the shafts or just some random ones the PO put on.

Looks like Great Basin Rovers has Detroit Lockers. They are shown on their website at least.

" As a matter of fact, we refuse to sell them in 10 spline applications. It is almost as important to upgrade stock 24 spline versions. This is important because Detroit Lockers are susceptible to damage during axle breakage. This is not a quality issue but a design issue. We can supply upgraded axle shafts for any Land Rover application. We can also supply complete remanufactured exchange differentials with Detroit Lockers – please inquire."

No bolts were provided with mine. Stock works fine as long as its torqued and you?re not using silicone sealant. I went through a ton of stock bolts,ARP bolts. Grade 12.9 mcmaster fancy crap. Drilled and wired ARP worked but that was a pain to do. Stopped using RTV and no more bolt problem

The site is likely outdated as they are no longer made. Lucky 8 has them on their site but have none in stock.
