RR Evoque battery replacement - memory saver necessary?

Hi all,

Whenever I've swapped out the batteries for my D1, D90, or Series, it was as simple as turning off the ignition and dropping in the new battery.

I am planning on swapping out the battery in my fiancee's 2016 Evoque- do I need one of these new-fangled 9v memory saver things that plug into the cigarette lighter, or another 12v supply, or can I just do the same as I've always done? I'll never hear the end of "I should have taken it to the dealer" if I mess up her ECU somehow from a battery change...

If your doing it for a battery low please start vehicle message it could and probably would still be on after the battery is replaced.
The battery monitor system should be reset. And maybe some software updates. Like gateway module for sure.
The other thing is if the battery fails a test with a tester called a GR8( midtronics stuff) she should get it covered under factory warranty unless she's got more than 50,000 miles on it.
She should go in with a complaint like my eco stop doesn't work or my rear gate won't power open some times. That will help set the guy up with complaints that point to a bad battery.

Nothing special to replacing the battery, but like Stew said, if they low battery light is on, it will still be on after battery replacement if the BMS is not reset.

I called the dealership and they quote $175 for labor to replace the battery and reset the BMS. I'm going to ask about the other related issues as discostew mentioned, as they're definitely part of the problem, and she has 40k on the odometer. Otherwise, just planning on doing the battery myself and 1) seeing if the system will adapt, or 2) having the BMS reset at the dealership. Which will probably cost $175 by itself. Kinda liked when it was all so much simpler...

If the battery is failing in some way it's covered under warranty. If you just want it replaced as preventative kind of thing, your going to have to pay.

Battery failed, and was covered under warranty. So no need for the memory saver, or the new battery we'd already purchased. All in all, a great result. Thanks for the suggestions!
