Any suggestions to remove rust that is on top of paint? My rear ladder rusted and dripped down over the rear door and there are two rust trails going down to the bumper. I have the ladder getting blasted and powder coated and I want to clean up the rust while it is off.

Try Mother's chrome polish paste I use that on everything and after you remove it make sure to wash the area then once dry apply wax as the mothers will strip the wax that may be there.

i usually have success with a light abrasive compound. If not, go for a more abbrasive compound but start light. Its basically oxidized metal bits that have dripped onto the clean(er) paint surface. There are more aggressive methods (google fallout remover) that require more care in their use. good luck.

Thanks, I will try a few of those. I think there is a place under the plate I can test without making too much of a mess.

I have a clay bar for the spray on hood blackout I am going to do. That made me think of CLR too. I will have to read the destructions to see if it is safe on paint.
