What are the signs of SAI pump failure? Can it be heard (over the noise of the engine) when running? Or is it a dismantle and power it straight off the battery to diagnose?

I disconnect the air tubing from the SAI pump, remove the filter (I have a K&N filter), quickly spray some WD40 into the SAI intake, remove relay R6 in the engine compartment fuse box and briefly jump the socket connections #5 & #3 to operate the SAI pump.
