Hello all. I don't really have a clear answer reading through the forums. I've got a 1998 d1 and I'm looking for a budget friendly scan tool. I really need something to allow me to read fuel trims specifically. My matco pocket scanner lets me pull codes all day but I really need to see some live data. What is everyone using and what scan tools should I stay away from? Thanks.

Get a popular app called Torque for android and apple. You will need an OBD2 dongle to get it working, bluetooth dongle for android, and wifi dongle for apple. This setup will allow you to view real time data.

Thanks for the replies. I'm seeing a lot of these ICARSOFT scan tools for under 200.00. Anyone have any experience with these?

Thank you for the input. I use fuel trims almost daily on porsche motors. I can really make quick diagnostic work with just those numbers so as long as the scanner displays that information nicely I'm good haha.

I’ve got the UG Blue on an old iPad for my Disco 2. It’s great to monitor engine temps and other gauges that can be added to it.
Though it does have an option to read and clear fault codes it’s not really the best to read Land Rover specific codes.

Any feedback on the Ultragauge Blue wireless setup?
I have the Blue, it does a good job for basics, engine temps, O2 readings, fuel trim, and OBD2 codes and whatnot.. For any advanced ECU scanning you should look at iCarsoft or similar

This will do all-system scan for 1 make (additional makes are like $20 more per).

It will also do some* bi-directional stuff.

I believe the make you select first is lifetime, while additionals are only 1 year. Basically a Foxwell for half the price but you're using your phone for the UI.

*It will do keys and air suspension calibration on an RRS, but couldn't reset the x-drive fluid monitor on an old X5

I doubt thats going to give you a whole vehicle scan on a Disco1. Disco2 was the first one to bring the CAN network to the diagnostic connector and I think it was only Engine, Trans, and maybe ABS. After 2005 when everything ran on the CAN network you can easily do a whole vehicle scan with most average scan tools.
