EDIT 2: BaT listing is now live:
EDIT: I'm going to sell it. I'm working with BaT on getting professional pics and a listing up, but if any DWeb member here wants to make an offer beforehand, let me know.

Photos and a longer, complete description of work done and features at the following link. Will add some pics of undercarriage and video of a cold start soon. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1PhkPbd1YpT27DsM7XwsQJgT9GezaUFfO?usp=sharing

Original post below:

Hi all, I have an opportunity to get a RRC at a great price, and in order to get that I'd have to sell my '95 300Tdi right hand drive D1. It's the one from this thread: https://discoweb.org/index.php?threads/my-introduction-to-lr-a-rhd-300tdi-d1.99972/ This was imported to the US from the UK in late 2020 and I purchased it from the importer in mid 2021.

Mechanically, it's in fantastic shape. The 300Tdi had electronic diesel control and EGR deleted previously, so it's all mechanical. All electronics/windows/locks work, the engine, transmission, and transfer box is all solid. All new suspension on it with OEM parts. I bought this for $11k and have put well over $12k into it so far. Interior is pristine IMO. There is no sunroof, so no leaks there to worry about! Headliner is awesome.

There is some light rust on the frame. I have been chasing down a small leak in the passenger (left) footwell. The worst offender for rust is the rear axle housing, which could be replaced obviously.

What would be a good market price range for this? Would anyone here be interested? I know for a proper listing I need to get some pics and a better summary written up.resize-IMG_2073.pngresize-IMG_2078.png

Holy schmoly, this sounds like a great opportunity for luddites like me who prize primitive and underpowered Rovers. I've been following your work on this Disco and it will be a great score for someone. I'd try to talk you out of selling it but getting a RRC is always a good move.

What's your goal? Pass it along to an enthusiast in this community at a reasonable price? Pursue top dollar in the wider market? If the latter, a little investment in detailing and rust remediation and quality photos could command a high price on a site like BaT.

@Tugela I’d be looking for a reasonable faster sale rather than top dollar.

The RRC is a rust free example with a super clean interior, which seems to be pretty hard to come by these days and I think a better longer term vehicle for me to own. I’d love to transplant the 300Tdi and trans from this into that, but I wouldn’t get much interest in a RHD with no engine or trans I don’t think. I could be wrong through.

Need to talk with my guy on what that transplant would cost vs selling this now and sourcing a Tdi drivetrain later.

I saw a near-complete recently rebuilt 300TDI for sale on a LR FB page a couple days ago for $4,000. I can't recall if it was removed from a Defender or Disco.

Bump - any thoughts on pricing would be appreciated. After I assess the RRC next week, I'll probably formally make this for sale here before going to BaT or similar.

Research BaT for price. Offhand, and without doing any research, I’d think 20k all day long. Again, that’s my gut taking, maybe quite a bit more on BaT.

and you had me at 40 mpg, just wish I could bring it home without my wife losing her shit.

Honestly, I think I made a miscalculation on that one. Or that was extremely fortunate circumstances for driving, and before we added steel bumpers, winch and roof rack. 20-25mpg is much more realistic for where it's at now.

I'm thinking $17k-20k should be achievable based on what I'm seeing at BaT.

That sounds reasonable. And agreed on the mileage figures. Mid-twenties is what I get on the TD5 Defender I drive in South Africa and that's in line with what my friends get from their 300TDI Rovers. Stock + road tires + highway driving gets upper twenties.

I get 23 mpg on my 300tdi w/5-speed Disco just about no matter how I drive it. It has HD bumpers front and rear.

@Tugela I got to look at that RRC today and it's living up to its promises. The paint is rough but the mechanicals are 100% functional and there is no rust. And it's got the toys that I have on my D1 already. I think it's a vehicle I want to invest in and keep long term. And A/C WORKS!!!

So I'm going to formally list the D1 here before we get a BaT listing live if someone wants to give me a nice, easy sale... :)

For the curious, I had the pics taken Sunday so I’m hoping the BAT listing will be up next week.
And here’s a pic of the replacement. Needs a paint job but mechanicals are about as perfect as can be, and zero frame rust. This will be getting a “new” 300Tdi eventually.

Very nice! Always have felt on RRC or D1s for that matter mechanicals are easier to address than body / frame rot. Have fun!

No, BAT is taking forever to get listings up. I had pictures taken by the photographer a week ago from last Sunday, and I got an email yesterday that says I should be waiting at least another 2-3 weeks.

So I'm keeping these listings up until then.

Great photos, that’s an honest representation. I’d love to drive this thing with the RHD, stick, and TDi.
