Can you share why you chose to go with C&B and not BaT? I don't know a great deal about the inner workings of either so just curious what goes into the decision at a high-level.

The attached Carfax report show indicated "minor damage" occurring to the center rear in January 2000 and an accident causing reportedly "minor damage" in April 2013, although no further details are given about the second event.

If I remember correctly, all damage in April of 2013 happened to a Toyota Camry a few feet away :)

Well that kinda sucked. I watched this auction and I believe that truck is worth a lot more than the 6 grand it took. This is why the auction with no reserve is risky.

I wonder what factor the auction platform played in that result. When I sold my 1993 Range Rover Sport - not as rare as the Eco Challenge XD, but 1 of fewer than 100 - I listed it on Second Daily with a reserve and bidding fell short of that target. Bring a Trailer seems to command more attention and higher bids, although a lot has to do with the individual vehicle. Its possible that my uncommon Rangie and this XD didn't strike quite the right chord with the "must have at any cost" buyers. Then again, Elias sold his XD on Bring a Trailer for a tidy sum.

IMO... presentation.

this truck was dirty, visible surface rust, etc. a good detail and compounding out the paint scuffs, and a little sandpaper and paint go a long way. that, and pictures that weren't taken with a an old camera phone.

presentation, too much aftermarket stuff, not enough factory stuff

having the seat covers installed and the correct wheels and floor mats would have been a good start.

The correct winch mount would have taken it up to collector status

look at the 92 camel trophy auction on that site compared to the 94. The 94 had alisport crap all over it, some tacticool console cover with series shifters, britpart bumper, but overall was in much better shape and still went for half the price

I think your right about a lot of the equipment on the truck. It looks like safarigard bumpers on it. I don't know for sure but I wouldn't think the Special Vehicles dept. was using those. Anybody know about that?
All that said about presentation and equipment, this truck had huge potential. When I was younger I would build some old Chevy or Olds stuff to sell. It's always best to start with something special/ Limited Edition.

The original ECO XDs just used stock LR brush guards, some with winches installed, some without. The XDs were a marketing tool for LRNA hoping to get some additional exposure on the Discovery channel broadcast, so they were ordered for the event pretty last minute. The TReK event was set to take place shortly after the ECO event, with the XD going on sale the following MY, Discovery Channel wanted a sponsor and figured the yellow would pop, so LRNA was hoping to get more air time, but they were disappointed with the results. The coverage only had a few shots of the Discoverys and they were only support/media vehicles, so there wasn't a lot to show off.

My understanding (and this is debated) is that the 28 ECO XDs were a mixture of builds pulled off the line and sprayed AA yellow, kitted and shipped to BC. I don't believe they were even built by LRSV as they don't have the plate inside the engine bay like the production XDs. The decals were applied on site for the event, as there are participants that have recounted the crazy job of putting stickers on the trucks just hours before the event started.

This example is pretty typical of a 25-year-old XD; paint fade, aftermarket parts replacing the rusted out stock junk (like the brush guards), noticeable wear/tear on the interior. I think the high selling point of XDs (TReK units, ECO, or production) comes when it either has history (like the TReKs) or is a super clean stock example. A better presentation certainly would have helped this one, but in my mind, it's not worth a premium without those two factors, even with the limited number of ECOs that were built.

Personally, I love this truck, but that's because I love any/all XDs and am happy that it's going to a good home!
