Series gas gauge

Hello
I have Series IIa With gas gauge problem.
I have connected the sending unit to ground and the other side to the gauge I have connect the other side of the gauge to power and the gauge went all the way to full with only one gallon of gas.
What am I missing?

You are missing the voltage regulator. It is a small rectangular box with 2 terminals that screws to the firewall (behind the instrument panel). The positive feed to the fuel guage passes through this to regulate the voltage (I think down to 10V or so) and stop the guage over-reading.

Minis and a few other british cars used the same regulator if you don't have one.

Also, some of the regulators must be mounted in a certain position, usually perfectly horizontal. If you buy a new one, the instracution should (they used to anyway) state if it needed to be mounted in a certain orientation.
