Is it possible to run RR Classic aluminum wheels on a series vehicle?
Thanks,
Fred

Unfortunately, the aluminum wheels have too small of a center hole to adequately fit the hubs on the Series axles. Tornados (the "D90" wheel), Castors (like early Discos), Sports and Boost syles (like the later RRC sometimes had, and showed up other vehicles sometimes), etc., they just won't go. I don't think even the old 3-spoke will fit (but it's one that I can't say that I've personally tried). I tried the Tornados on my 88", and they just wouldn't fit.

The steel Disco wheel fits, if you need a wider wheel than the traditional 16" steel wheel. (I've gone with the Disco steelie on my Series.) Or, you can change to coil-axles to get the disc brakes and have the right hubs for alloys... would have to alter the axle housing to suit leaf-springs.... Or, you could change out the hubs on the Series axles if you're skilled and determined....

FWIW....

Fred,

There was a guy who lived in Newport Beach CA, who had RR wheels on his series truck, He said he had to take it to a machine shop to have the center machined out to fit. Personaly I don't think they look to good on a series truck, realy out of place. But if you have a set laying around collecting dust and you don't mind going through the hassle of having them machined then go for it.

On an earlier Rangie RRC, pre-94, no problem..... (well, you probably shouldn't run really wide tires on narrow rims, and the offset isn't quite the same, but, they're within workable range). 5 bolt holes on a 6.5-inch circle, FWIW.

But Series wheels won't fit a P38 or an RR3.

It is not a good idea since series wheels don't have the safety lip to retain the bead.
