Started to get a P0300 (Random misfire) about 2 weeks ago and a P0305 (Cylinder 5 misfire) showed up a few days ago along with the P0420/rear oxygen sensor ( I have no cats).

This morning on the way to the bank i started to see puffs of smoke out the back, and by the time i headed home (30 mile round trip) it was almost constant with the CEL blinking away from the misfires.

I'm thinking a Valve seal failed on 5 or the head gasket did - possibly the valley pan gasket at the intake.

Engine rebuilt about 25-30,000 ago/~5 years ago.

Ideas?

Yup the head gasket at cylinder 5. Exactly as it came off the block. Also expanded the valley pan gasket about 4 inches.

Had to change Radiator last fall as it was getting plugged and getting into the low to mid 220's. Also had a coil-pack go out prior to that, and limped it home 5 miles. Other than that no actual overheating issues. May have been just user error when I rebuilt it.

It was the new upgraded version - just like the ones I just put in. Figured out its the Block. I have 1 bolt hole (threads) on bank 1 and 2 on band 2 "pulling" out. As I torqued the heads down I could feel them "pulling" out. I could only get to maybe ~60 ft lbs on those 3 - the rest torqued fine. So far its running, but I have no idea for how long. I just bought another truck (f350) so that I have something to drive while I figure out what to do with this. Time for a new block or an engine swap.

Victor Reinz gaskets, new bolts and 3 E-Z-Lock threaded inserts.

I had the same thing happen on my block. The threads in the inner DS front tapped hole failed. I used an E-Z Lock then replaced the studs and went back to the stretch bolts.
You can get everything on Amazon.
