KTM! Wow. Big money there. I love those bikes. An adventure bike is coming soon. My love is a Tiger 800 Xcx but the Africa Twin is definitely up there too. KTM is a beast.

Nah not big money, unless you're buying a new one.

The other bike that went with me is an 800 XCX. Good bike, but not nearly as off road oriented as the KTM. Far better fuel mileage though, which is a big deal when we're riding 200+ mile stretches with no fuel. Same goes for the GS - I sold my 1150 GS. It just doesn't compare. The huge fuel tanks up top really make them harder to maneuver at slow speeds/technical terrain. Not to mention the KTM 950 is a beast and significantly more fun to ride. Heard lots of good things about the Honda AT.

The only issue I had with my KTM is all the elevation changes - from sea level to around 5K feet in a day and back to sea level. Mine still has carbs, though I do have the external adjustments on it - still a pain in the ass to remember one turn = 1,000 ft elev change, etc. The 990 is the same bike for the most part, but fuel injected.

That being said my next bike will likely be a late model KTM Baja. If you don't frequent www.advrider.com, you should. Good MX info there too.

We were just poking around and trying to find out how to get to them from a distance. Figured it out and there were sections we could cruise at 80 and others where 25 was the most we could do. Found a gathering of about 5 hippies from CA in converted small buses surfing in some sections. As you mentioned, there seem to be a lot of those areas, but we just didn't know where they were. There weren't many people at all and we only ran into a handful of American's.

My buddy Jeff is doing the Mexican 1000. Would like to go down for one of those races sometime. We were there when the 250 was running. San Felipe was full of race vehicles as we stopped there overnight and did some repairs there too.

So many stories, so many pictures. It's my favorite place. Unfortunately, the Valle de Gaudelupe has become so popular, don't bother visiting without reservations.

When I was there it was a ghost town. Some of the wineries where we were the only people and were given our own tour.

We stayed in a pretty rough hotel south of town for like $25. They didn't have a key, so they put their 4 year old daughter through the window to unlock the door for us.

Jesus...this might be a bad idea. What route or areas are you thinking? You could drop into some shithole airfield in the middle of nowhere and I could pick you up. Just bring lots of cash.

One of my favorite movies. Haven't seen in a long time.

Is Mongo too scared?

I can show up anywhere. Both coasts are nice of course - coming in town via TJ on MX1 or down via Tecate via MEX3. Not too much on MEX3 south until San Felipe. You could really stay 3 nights just in the Encenada and Guadaloupe Valley area.

Damn you guys. Lol. I'm glad my failed trip attempt has brought you guys together. I'm pretty sure the truck won't be done. Plus I've got a work trip to Utah at the last part of the month. Take pics.

So am I missing anything? Suggestions? I welcome any criticism.
Sounds like your plan is sorted. Now, all you got to do is schedule a GO! Don't over think solo travel, all of our travels to Baja are solo with wife and two girls (3 & 10 yr old). Planning on going back this March, this time with our 7 mos. old baby boy. Learn basic spanish and a lot of common sense. Good luck!

I think Garrett and Mongo have been together for a while now, if you know what I mean.

I just won a job in Vegas that will require a site visit in 2 to 3 weeks, will have to see when the trigger is pulled to know my schedule for sure.
