I have a 96 Land Rover Dicovery with a 4.0L automatic with A/C. My problem is it will die when driving some times and won't re start, the fuel gauge on the injector rail says it has 40 psi while cranking, there is no injector pulse (Noid light) or spark to the plugs (spark plug tester) when this happens. I let it sit for awhile then it will start again and act like nothing is wrong. The other problem it does is when I go to start it some times it won't start, and what I mean is the dash lites up but it gets no power to the starter. (tested with a volt meter) If I hold the key in the start postion it will start to crank after about 5 sec. but no spark or injector pulse. The fuel test gauge tells me it is not the fuel pump.(gets voltage via a volt meter and it also shows up by the gauge needle jumping from 38 psi to 40 psi) The crank sensor is testing good on a Snap-On Vantage the wave looks good. The dealer I took it to say it need an ignition module in the distributor, but the system is a D.I.S. No distributor. I think it is a module, main relay acting up, or a coolant temp sensor to the ECM(not the dash gauge sensor). Any help will be great.

Would agree that your discription of the problem would be most likely be caused by a failing ignition switch.
