Starting and running issue

Lately I have been having trouble getting my truck started, it will click one turn of the key and then turn over the next. The last time I took it out it also would die during idle, it ran fine at speed, but then once I stopped, it would lose rpms and die. The starter and VSS have less than 10k miles on them and the truck is rarely driven, but I would like to change that...

Check your base idle. I had a similar problem and once I adjusted it my idle issues were resolved. I pasted the procedure from an old posting below. I used the dashboard tach to set it, not exact but it idles well now.

Atop the plenum, you will either see a smooth cap, or, it was was removed, the same hole will have an allen screw at the bottom of the hole.

Set up an ACCURATE(NOT the dashboard one) tach to the car.

Sqeeze shut the bypass hose.

The bypass hose is about a inch in diameter and connected to the stepper motor housing on the back of the plenum

With it sqeezed adjust the idle, using the hex screw to 550 +/- 25.

When there, release the clamp. The idle speed will go up...then settle down.

Base idle is not the issue ,unless you messed with it.I'd look closely at the starter connections, sounds like you are not engaging the starter, (Click) selenoid .
Also , check vaccum lines , dizzzy (cap crude from sitting) look at your rotor while there for the idling issues.

Sorry been away for a few days, those sound more like the culprits, I will check them tomorrow.

The vacuum line was definitely done for. Once that part comes in I will check the starter connections.

Thanks,
