Figure I'd post this up here for those interested. Before I continue, I am fully aware that there are better subs and amps out there. There are also even cheaper ones. I was not interested in spending money unnecessarily for this.

Earthquake Sound 6.5 shallow mount subs. The price on these things seems to fluctuate from $60-85 dollars a pair.

I am very happy with this setup. I've paid for higher end stuff before, but this is good enough. These things hit hard with this amp, way more than I expected. Its 250W RMS x 1 @ 4 ohms, 1100W peak @ 2 ohms (which is bullshit anyway, but the amp has a 30A fuse). I'm running it at 2 ohms (two 4 ohm subs wired in series), the amp is 2 ohm stable. Next step is to take the hatch apart and put peel and seal/dynamat inside it to insulate it... the thing sure does rattle now. the amp barely fits under the driver's seat on the shelf thing for the factory cd changer but it fits. I bought a nice Knukoncepts wiring kit, and it was great quality. I've used their stuff in the past. The speaker wire from the sub to the amp didn't make the run.. I had to add a 6" jumper. If I just ran the wire under the carpet straight back instead of along the outside edge of the truck it would have been enough with more to spare.

I was originally going to do the same thing and use some JL 6.5", but ended up doing a new box in the same location to hold an 8" sub powered by an old 125w Clarion amp. Originally had a kicker, but changed it to a MTX. The box is a little deeper than the original, but doesn't take up much room and sounds great.
