Anyone know of any good Lojack competitors? I'm interested in a tracker for my LR4 in case it gets stolen, but I don't need any of the real-time extras nor a monthly fee. I'd only use it if the truck gets stolen.
I am so not interested in a tracker for my LR4.

Something a person could do to mitigate the cost somewhat. If you had an old apple/android device you could get a pay-as-you-go card and hide it in the truck. Then use the "share my location/find my phone" apps as a tracker. I don't see any reason that wouldn't work.

Most of them you have to update/replenish once a month. But for a month, it'll work.

Well the phone battery will give up before you need to replenish anything.

There was a creepy news story in Washington a couple years back about a jealous ex-husband who hardwired a smartphone into his ex-wife's car's electrical system (concealed behind the dash) put the ringer on silent, and set it to answer automatically when called. By this sneaky strategem he could not only track all her movements, but could call the phone and eavesdrop on her conversations. I forget how she eventually figured out the stalking technique, but a similar approach could also be used for less nefarious purposes.

This is why Discoweb is so great. It would have never occurred to me (or I bet blue either) that the battery would run out. I mean I've not charged my DD phone in 20 years. But here's someone quick to point out that fact before Blue is driving around with a dead phone hidden in his rig like some stupid mook.

You would have to pay somebody to do it for you anyway. Just sounded like a really stupid half assed way to do something easy.

The OBD port ones are kind of neat. But obvious - would have to wire a lead and hide it behind a panel.

This is the same kind of unit they installed on our fleet, actually every vehicle at the state government level. Replaces the OEM OBD port.

I had a similar system on my fleet vehicles with a company I sold back in 2016. You get caught up in the sales pitch about all the monitoring and warnings and then you start getting email and text alerts all night long about drivers going over 80 mph, sitting idle for too long, etc. You lecture the employees and then get even more alerts the next night, then turn all that shit off and merrily pay the monthly fees for the next 2 years. Rinse, repeat.

Just saw on Instagram the vehicle was recovered. The rear section of the roll cage was removed, wheels painted black, brush guard gone and the dash all taken apart
