Opinons pls. Gonna pull the trigger on 2 1610s or 2 iM2720s. Both seem similar and about same size.

I've never had either but plan to use them for on-rack storage, camping, air travel w/gear, etc... All other crap I've bought before wears out or leaks. Time to try the good stuff now.

TIA,

Never had a Storm case so can't comment on those. I've been using a Peilcan case for my laptop for about 3 or 4 years and the only issue I had with it was the one of the screws coming out that holds on the shoulder strap. A little loctite fixed that. I haven't taken any precautions about being gentle with it, it stays dry inside in the rain and it's come back from trips several times splattered with mud. Also have a small yellow Pelican for my digital camera. I like them enough I recently bought two 1650's.
FWIW I've gotten my best prices off ebay. One of the 1650's I got used, the other was new. If you're not in a hurry, you can get a decent price on used ones.

My Pelicans get used and abused, holding up great, only thing is that I need a couple more.

Storm Case all the way for me from now on, got two 2720s in the back of the truck. When you have cases loaded with 75 lbs of gear the last thing you want is the Pelican handles digging into your hand. I have about 30 Pelican cases in 5 sizes (5 are 1620s) and have been using them about 10 years so you can't say I've haven't used them. They are very good cases and they stand behind their warranty. We've replaced at least a dozen for broken hinges and latches and one was completely mangled by UPS equipment. All replaced no questions asked.

I haven't had to send a Storm case back for a warranty call so I can't vouch for that. The Storm Case has a very comfortable handle in comparison with the Pelican. The two things I have had problems with on Pelicans, latches and the hinges, the Storm Case improved the design. The new Pelican cases have upgraded latches so they are of similar design to the Storm Cases. The hinges on a Storm Case run the entire length of the case and I believe to be stronger.

Thx Mike. I had read other posts like yours as well. And I am leaning towards the Storm cases.

Best pricing I've seen is Pangaea-expeditions and Botac sites. Any other suggestions besides eBAY (I hate that route - and I want new).

Being a former plastics guy, it appears that the HPX resin used in the Storm cases is polycarbonate. If so, I'd be concerned about the chemical reisistance of the storm cases. Polycarbonate is very susceptible to attack by petroleum based products, e.g. gas and oil. I sent a request to Hardigg to confirm what the material used in the cases is. If it is truly PC, I wouldn't use it for the Rover.

On of the big advantages of using glass filled PP (Pelicans) is that it is chemically resistant to just about all of the common things that I will be bringing along in the rover.

Would definetly be interested in hearing the results since I keep various spare fluids in one of them.

A quality warranty for a quality product. That's much more than can be said for Procomp.

Are you trying to tell me Procomp is not quality??? I hear they are better than OME.

Watch it Dan, we just put ProComp shocks on the RR!! ;)

(for a truck that gets driven <4000 miles a year, we thought we'd try them) can definitely tell they are not as heavy/nice as the OME, but they ride ok for now
