"cant get out of park" problem just showed up on my rover.

everytime I shift into park the #25 (brake light) 15A fuse keeps blowing. EVERY time. I've replaced it 3 times in the past 24 hours in order to get home. I need to find a way to permanently fix this problem quick, instead of swapping a fuse everytime I wanna go some place.

did you check the brake switch? tail light harness? bulbs?

Biggs,
When you press on the brake pedal can you hear the solenoid click? You should also be able to feel it while holding on the shifter lever. Mine was doing the same thing not allowing me to shift out of park and I just needed to adjust the brake switch.

This bull shit just happened to me. Havent been home in three weeks started her up, let her idle in the drive way for a little while and went for a few neighborhood laps. Noticed a turn signal wasn't working got out popped out the bulb the and fuse blew. Replaced fuse and now the sob will not go back into drive. Have the console out and the PRND21 as well.

Just looking for clarificiation? Is the brake switch everyone mentions the little microswitch that has an orange and black wire coming out of it? Is it wired directly to the solenoid as well. I noticed the orange wire on this is actually not connected anymore. Is the pin mentioned above the one that is in the gear selector arm b/c if so if you press it in it still stays in park.

Its sitting at the park down the street from my house so Ill wait for early morning and head back down to see if I can get her home.

The brake switch is under the dash. Follow the brake pedal up until you see a little plunger resting on the brake pedal shaft. You want the one with the wiring harness on it and not the one with the vacuum lines on it. Pop it out and replace it. Buy an extra, too, and toss it in the glove box.

Thank Dan. Got it moving. Now got to get it ironed out. Ill get a brake switch for the heck of it. Even more fun is it won't come out of low range. Time for some tapping and PB.

What exactly is that microswitch for in the shift area?
