I went the poly bush route. You will need a 20 ton press if you have a normal experience. Do all the bushings and the rear ball joint while you are at it. Check for steering box slop and excessive play in your front wheels.

Yeah, I've actually checked off most of the items on my list. New hoses, fan clutch, front and rear shocks and springs, new front shock towers, new brake lines, new a/c compressor, track rod/drag link replacements, wiper stalk...and I can't remember what else. I've got exhaust manifold gaskets to replace, and other bushings to do, a transmission service kit, and VCGs. The bushings are for real toasted, but since I added a two-inch lift, I need to get caster corrected radius and trailing arms so I'm trying to avoid the work for those if they're just going to be replaced anyway. I've got the rear sway bar off for total redo of the bushings and ball joints, but I've got one stubborn bolt that's gotta come off via cutting wheel.

She's running great with the exception of the exhaust leak. NC inspection is on the list next - will be the first one in three years. Slowly saving this one.

Any suggestions on the Throttle position sensor? What about caster corrected front and rear arms? Best to just go with Terrafirma?

Before you replace the TPS I'd take a reading of the fuel pressure at the rail. Fuel pumps are notorious for flaking out in these trucks. And they are cheap to replace.

So, passed inspection today, and on the way back to work, I got what seems to be the tell-tale bucking on the highway of a failed VSS. I nursed it back to the office (several stops and restarts to get it thinking things were fine), but I'm wondering if I can disconnect the VSS and be able to get home without that. Thoughts?

Alright, got it home - no problems once I disconnected the VSS so a new one is on order. Next issue though - just looking for some direction prior to crawling under. Driving down the highway, I have a relatively pronounced clunk coming from the left front under my feet. I don't think it's suspension related - clunk has nothing to do with going over bumps or turning. It's speed related - meaning that I get more clunks the faster I go and it's consistent - doesn't come and go. Any thoughts?

Finally got around to tackling this issue - jacked up the front - and the lug nuts were loose. LOL. Tightened lug nuts = no more clunk!

Drove it to work today - awesome having this thing back and functional.

I jinxed it. Driving it home yesterday, it gave me the same intermittent deceleration that I had back in December, though not as bad. It would only do it a couple of times, and then it would run fine. New VSS bad? Connection bad? Other issues?

OK, so I disconnected the VSS and the problem has disappeared, so clearly an issue with something in that chain. I'll address at a later date.

A larger problem has arisen. When slowing from speed to a full stop, the engine will cut off. If the slowing is deliberate enough and paced enough, it won't stall - but it takes a lot of nursing to happen, and it will cut off in a turn when slowing to take it. It reminds me of a manual transmission when you don't shift to a lower gear to match the speed. Torque converter? Transmission issue?

Try removing and cleaning (or replacing) idle air control valve (IACV, also known by many other names). It is on the back of the intake plenum, you should be able to reach it easily from the passenger side.

Can you smell gas/is it flooding out?

When my VSS broke in NM on a trip, anytime we got off the interstate onto the exit ramp it would die. You could smell the gas though as it flooded.
Replaced it, problem went away.

No, no flooding of the engine on stall. I ordered a new IACV - will be here tomorrow. We'll see if that fixes it. Thanks to both of you for the input. I'm curious about the VSS issue and why it's acting up after replacing. I don't particularly want to throw another $60 at another unit. Anyone have similar issues with replacement VSS being no good?

Alright, IACV replaced, problem remains. Computer is throwing code 19 now - which research tells me is either the TPS or the MAF. Anybody know how to source a less than $200 TPS?

From what I gather, with a IACV replacement you’ll have to reconfigure the ECU to match the new settings. Someone correct me if I’m wrong here. So in other words, you can’t just throw a new part at it and call it good which is why probably throwing a code.

I’m pretty sure the dealer can do it for you. Otherwise there are write ups on here on to DIY, search for it, but sounds like a PIA.

I think that's only for GEMS vehicles BDM. Mine is a '95, so it's a 14CUX. None of that fancy-pants adaptive values stuff. I'm going to hit up Will Tillery for a used TPS and see if that makes a difference.
