Tail lights not working

See attached, this bit has obviously been overheated. Is it part of the equation I am investigating? Can anyone draw any conclusions from this evidence? Do I need a new MFU?

Have you looked into your headlight switch?

that transistor handles all of the dome light activity and makes it dim

I think that was a result and not the cause, though it could be a secondary problem. you could cut that transistor off the board and live without automatic done lights

Id look at the wiring to the both dome lights and the trunk light

I had the same issue with my 96 D1. I had to replace the headlight switch. I ran the headlights through relays to take the load off the new switch.
