I can get Pentosin at the local Napa, the other stuff is seemingly unobtainable at any cost around ehre and I can't justify buying it and shipping it in from overseas.

Well that sucks. When I had to get some from Rover a few months back. I asked the counter guy if Pentosin would work. He said he honestly doesn't know but told me that in the past they were having a hard time getting the Rover stuff and all the techs were running around like chickens not knowing what to do. I've brought up this point before that my distributer IMC carries most brand be it Pentosin Febi Lubro Moly. If you need Pentosin for a VW or BMW you have many choices. If you need Rover they only list genuine(which they never have). You would think they would figure this out. Since Rover doesn't have a break down of what is in that bottle we will never know.

Knowing who you probably spoke with, that doesn't surprise me. The techs in that shop spent a lot of time running around like that-the sky's falling!

Perhaps an MSDS might be a good idea.

Why not just use the GM cold climate fluid? I've been running it for almost a year with no issues.

Yes they have no clue. Even the BMW Rasmussen guys think they are all a little angry but they never make any money. I really don't even know how they stay in business.

I use ATF in my PAS, will use it soon in the ACE to.

Dexron II or III spec ATF is in the workshop manual for the ACE, so it should be fine in the PAS unless you live where its -20° or more on regular occassions.

CHF-11S?

Yes, power steering and ACE, but in this case, just power steering.
thats the stuff.

I asked the PDX dealer once even about getting the factory "required" fluid they use in the transmissions of the new models, but they said they couldnt even get it if they wanted to because it was "hazardous material" and they couldnt get it shipped to them. So i asked them what they do when they change the tranny oil and they said "we dont do that." I just ended up putting Pentosin in everything.

Go ahead and use Pentosin and listen what happens.

the DII's like just cheap old powersteering fluid/hydraulic fluid.

ATF will make the DII system leak and Pentosin makes them scream bloody murder.

I made the mistake of using The CHF-11S and ended up having to flush every drop out of wifes DII to shut the pump up.

mmm interesting, that must be why the Workshop manual states non-synthetic ATF fluid maybe ?

Not heard or seen any probs tbh, the recon steering boxes we get over here specify ATF as a fluid to use, so I would assume the seals will be fine. As far as the ACE goes, well still using the Land Rover fluid at the mo till the ACE pipes are replaced (corrosion) then may switch to ATF for that to.
Quite a few guys over here use ATF and have done for a few years and report no probs with it, especially in the PAS.

Dont know what or anything about pentosin tbh.

EDIT, just found this on the CHF-11s

http://www.statoillubricants.com/mar/lu/sto00131.nsf/UKProductsWeb/pentosinchf11s/$FILE/Pentosin_CHF_11S.pdf

Seems its a synthetic fluid which the manual states not to use an alternative, so thats probably why the pump screamed a bit.

Non synthetic ATF should pose no probs tbh.
