I've bitched about the issues we had with our DII, and questioned LR's reliability in general, but barring a grudge by this publication, damn...

IMO, I feel that LR has become more reliable but also more complicated so the two cancel themselves out. If you don’t work on your own rigs , I think you would feel that they are less reliable. I think all manufacturers are making vehicles that are too complicated with too many systems. They should have stopped adding electronic systems around the 2004 era and just made those systems better. Having your engine management and transmission brakes, steering and suspension all talking to each other as well as the cameras, headlights? No thanks. Back up camera , sure that’s a great idea, ABS that works, yup, phone that connects to the stereo, I am in favor of that, but I feel that it’s all gotten way out of hand. But really I am not the customer LR is looking for. If I had 60k to buy a Defender, I would be looking at 80’s/90’s vintage. It’s just tuff that they have gone thru 3 Defenders and a month and the guy still doesn’t have one to drive.

So earlier I mentioned that the inline six has a shit ton of technology I personally wouldn't want. It has an electric supercharger that spools up to fill the turbolag it has the whole variable oil pump and coolant pump has an actuator on it that has variable flow. Just a lot of shit to go wrong for someone who keeps cars past any warranty coverage.
I'm assuming it's a six cyl. That needs replacement. I don't read those articles cause most times it's just over the top bullshit. If I want to know what's going on with a car I would be better informed by my bank teller, or the chick who sells me my lunch at a drive thru

The one in the video is the 4-cylinder. It's been a cpl weeks since I've watched the original video, but from what I remember they were getting misfire codes, the dealer replaced all the coils and a harness, they got it back and the entire camera system quit working when they pulled out of the lot, then when they took it back in to the dealer the misfire returned as well.

That's great, they are more reliable than they use to be taking into consideration the complexity of the model years. According to the article they rank at the bottom compared to almost any other brand on the market. So I'm not really sure what your point is.

If they ran a recent J**p Grand Cherokee diesel, they'd be talking about the 34,000 recalls because of a fire hazard. It's on Defender. The second one with the cut wiring was a Dealer tech error, not a Land Rover issue. Stop making more of it than is necessary.

I guess my point was that I feel like auto makers in general have blown right past the “ sweet spot” with electronic systems in cars. Where there was enough electronic systems to make the vehicle more reliable and better to drive. Now it’s just too much and just creating more problems for the gains you get. Yes it makes some less capable drivers better, I am just not sure it’s worth it. I was mostly just pointing out what a tough time they are having with this one defender that happens to be owned by a youtuber. What are the odds.

I don’t disagree with you, but people said the same shit about fuel injection back in the day.

Pretty sure I said that back in the 80’s when electronic fuel injection first started to come on production cars. It was a pain. Since about 2000, I wouldn’t think of running a carb on anything. Lol. And since I am in the general section, I hope you all have the best Thanksgiving that you can. There are always things to be great full for.
