Since my cursory search across the web on a surefire way to delete your a/c was less than simple, I thought it might help someone to know how I did mine. This is in regards to a D1 Disco, so if anyone has information relating to a different series feel free to chime in.

Long story short, you need a D2 tensioner pulley and PN# ERR6191 belt. It's really simple, and now there's so much room for activities!

I'll be dreading it come August, but for now it's worth it.

Why not? This isn’t a commuter car, and when I’m off-road I prefer having the windows down, simple as that really.

Add in the not-insignificant weight savings, less demand on the belt drive, fewer things to break, more room to work in the engine bay, and improved air flow through the radiator, and that’s enough of a reason for me.

Obviously this isn’t for everyone, and I understand that it’s a niche operation, but for those that want to go this route it might help.

It just sounds half assed especially on a special edition like an xd. Maybe I need to buy a lottery ticket but in over half a million miles of driving discovery the only concern on your list that Ive encountered was a compressor bearing got loud enough to necessitate replacement

its nice having defrosters in a rainstorm or being able to run the AC when in a convoy on a dusty road.

I did this on a 97 NAS D90 where they came fitted with an AC compressor as an idler pulley from the factory. I can't fathom why you would want to remove it on a D1 unless you live in Southern California and never go out into the desert.

Jesus HW Christ, who knew this would be such a hot button issue! I have all of the parts in perfect order boxed away nice and neatly, so if I ever wanted to spend the *gasp* one hour it would take to put back together, I could. No vehicle parts were harmed in the making of this modification. S’all good. Relax.

I’m glad to hear that nothing has happened to you in your million mile endeavor, that’s an accomplishment to be sure. What that does not mean, however, is that it couldn’t happen. I simply wanted to reduce the amount of things that CAN break to a minimum, and air conditioning is not a deal breaker for me.

I’ve obviously gone too far here though, so I’ll be sure to keep anything short of a numbers matching frame off restoration to myself in the future. My sincerest of apologies.

Don’t let the rivet counters get to you. If you value the benefits of removing it, more than the benefit of having it, then go for it.
