Picked this up in place of the Rover now. Super clean and well-maintained. Not sure on an exact mileage but a clean truck is a clean truck regardless. Unfortunately not quite the 22RE, but the 3VZ will be just fine, it's still a Toyota motor. Found a great deal on it considering how inflated the market is for these little Yota rigs.

Excited to keep this thing relatively stock for the next year or two then eventually build the hell out of it, we all know how big the aftermarket world is for these.

What's the best forum for these things? Seems like YotaTech or that Ih8mud shit is decent.

Probably around 220k miles? Have fun doing a bunch of work then realizing you should have spent all that coin on a solid axle conversion for the front. Then you'll realize it sucks for being built and wish you had a RRC. Can you buy your own alcohol yet?

My prediction for your upgrades:
1. body lift(probably already has it?)
2. 285/75 tires or bigger
3. cheap ass used spare front axles for the stock ones you will repeatedly break as soon as you hit a trail

Remember that metro sexual kid that had a Disco then sold all of the parts off it and didn't ship them out then got an FJ Cruiser? Yeah, me neither.

they're pretty solid trucks, besides that they all rust to hell and the 3VZ eats head gaskets. my buddy had one that he gave to a family friend at 275k when it needed it's second clutch and third head gasket 3 years ago. he fixed it and it's his farm truck in VT still.

It's hard to tell from those photo angles if this 4Runner has the classic Toyota "Looks Like It's Always Going Uphill" rear spring sag. I do like the way the rear window winds up and down on those.

Those things are $500 all day long here. Most of them have the rear trailing arm mounts rusted off and the rear fenders ate out.

I know, weird right? Down here these things are a hot commodity. If you were to jump on Chatt/Knox Craiglist it would amaze you with how much they are bringing. They all have <250,000 miles and still bring at least $4k.

This truck has been taken care of and rust free, leveled with OME suspension, and plenty of motor work. The only upside of the head gasket is how easy they are to replace and how plentiful parts are

Grottoes must have a weak Toyota market.... 4Runers have a strong re-sale around here. I have a buddy that's made some damn good money flipping them. I like mine - sometimes I wish it had a solid axle but I'm not driving R.Creek or Pargaon either... I miss the HELL out of my Rover but my But-Runner has never let me down and it's a damn good little truck off road. (Factory e-locker helps of course.) They're good trucks.

Buying a used Toyota is a waste of money. They hold their value too well, so it makes more sense to buy new or just buy something else.

I got to wheel with some ARB reps yesterday. Two of them were in NEW yotas. I have to admit. The new ones are nice! That forerunner was almost too nice to be on the tight trails we were one.

Huh? I sure hope you don't do your own taxes. I bought a very clean '99 4Runner with 165K on it for $4,800 and drove it for over a year. I put tires on it and that's it. Sold it for $6,000. Even if I got what I paid for it, I am doing quite good.

They hold their value regardless if they are 2 years old or 20 years old. Depending on a few things (condition, model, age, etc), the depreciation will be a lower % when you buy used. Buy a 1997 Toyota Land Cruiser with 200K on it and pay $6,000 for it. Drive it for a year and keep it clean and you'll be able to sell it for close to that $6K or at worst $5 - 5,500K. Try losing $1K over a year on a new car - Toyota or not.

Parts costs high? I buy Toyota parts on a daily basis. They certainly aren't high (US models), but the best thing is I can get just about anything for a US model at any parts store. FZJ80 parts are the highest, but about on par with D1s, etc.
