I would guess that control of the lockers would be tied to some sort of ECU that would allow it to only be locked under certain parameters. I would imagine some form of only being selectable in low range at low speed as far as the front locker is concerned.
Yep I found out it's only available in 4 low and not available at speeds over 25 mph.

How many of you guys ordered your new Bronco. Because if you didn't this whole conversation is irrelevent. Why would any manufacturer care what a bunch of non buyers say.
I haven't "ordered" one but I did put a 100 bucks on one and something will have to extremely wrong for me not to get one.

Land Rover still claims it has the highest ownership retaining percentage of all manufacturers.
90% of current Land Rover owners not willing to pony up a fairly modest amount for what Land Rover claims as their best crowning achievement?
That's something.
Of course, 24 responses are not a whole lot of a sample.
People, chime in.

Land Rover dealer support in Los Angeles is why I will not be purchasing another new LR vehicle.
ETA - and the Defender just did not offer anything that piqued my interest

Just out of curiosity, what was it you needed from a dealership in LA that left you feeling the way you do?I've always said there is nobody left in Rover dealers who know anything about a 20 year old Disco, Defender, or Classic.

Also your probably one of very few guys on that list who actually committed to buying. I'll try to get my head wrapped around how this is a marketing success because we are all future buyers. But it just seems like a bunch of 8th grade guys looking at an article in hot rod magazine.

I think it’s a function of the homogeneity of modern SUVs. Ford came out with something very different here in both form and function.

It's simple math. Ford put out the Bronco and its has received a ton of interest because it is cool. Because it's cool it will drum up a lot of interst. The more interest, the more potential buyers. If only 10% of all interested buyers actually purchase, it stands to reason more interested parties will result in more purchases.

I saw The Motoring Club in LA did a poll a while ago and if I remember correctly they had like 600 or so responses overwhelmingly in favor of the Bronco. I would say the people responding to this are more likely to be buyers as a lot of them actually have money. 3B730006-8A4C-48A2-9794-C4DAE60F125C.png

Other than complete incompetence of their sales and service organization across the board, what else do you need to know? I liked the idea of the new defender and as soon as I talked to LR Co Springs, my mind was made up in 5 minutes.

The last time I spoke with anyone remotely competant at LR was 2006.

How about $685 for a D1 upper shock mount and a month to get it.

How about ordering a D110 now and getting it in 2022? This is reality in CO. You have told me otherwise, but just call LR Denver or CO Springs and see.

I won't buy a first year vehicle ever. The only way I would even consider it would be free maintenance and replacement warranty. As a general rule of thumb you would be an idiot to by a first year defender. If the Bronco is F150 based, it might be a better bet, but still not a wise purchase.

It won't be too long before Defender, D1, D2 are completely unserviceable and at that point, LR can go fuck themselves. There are already lot of parts you can't get for them.

Why would you go the dealer for parts or service on a Defender, DI or DII? Just go to JC for work you can’t do yourself and/or get parts from the aftermarket.

Clown is a term of endearmen, calm down, both of you. How can anyone have a solid opinion on any vehicle you haven't laid your hands on? I will agree I don't know anything about marketing. I just fix broken stuff. Chase electrons around expensive cars and trucks.

I do like stirring the shitpot around here, it wakes you guys up for a while.

Why do you think that it is necessary to have "laid your hands on" something to have an opinion on it.

My opinion is they took too long to come out with something that I will never buy.

I can't wait to see on on a trail, but to do that I need to get my old D1 out there.

I just thought it was funny that LR said they could order a shock mount for $685. FFS, I would have had a local fabricator do it before I gave that to LR. They obviously don't give a fuck, and that is what a new defender owner will learn in a year or two.

JC takes forever to get in. I still take my vehicles there but he is busy.

I was lucky and will have him look at some stuff next week, but from Feb-June it was 3-4 weeks out. Makes it tough if you need something. I did not feel comfortable even driving without a shock, but he would not have had it unless he had a spare parts car. It is also hard since it is an hour away and I have to take a $100 ride home.... that is a nice bottle of wine!

I wanted the part yesterday. There was 1 D1 in 4 you pull and pays in the Denver area, I got the part, but it was a royal PITA.

I WANT to want a new Defender. But I think I'm over the whole thing.

I'm leaning towards a Tacoma TRD Pro as my next daily driver. I'll probably keep my TReK edition Disco and sell the G4 and my other '04 D2.

Because some cars and trucks just feel like shit. I remember waiting for some vehicles when I worked for GM and we all wondered how small the person was they put next to the vehicle in the ads. When you start opening and closing shit and driving shit it's a whole new experience. Way better than watching a video or looking at still shots. It's hard for me to get excited over much of anything. SVR F-Pace is a tough act to follow. I-Pace is a blast to drive. But it took a long time for the I-Pace to win me over. Anything with the SVR badge on it is pretty bad ass.

I'm not saying I don't like the Bronco. I already said that. It looks like a truck we could buy and hit trails with a new vehicle. It's so hard to find a good rust free example of a Disco that I wouldn't want to fuck it up. Most of the wheeling I've done in the last 10 yrs was on ATV's. It cost 8 grand to have a brand new machine that I would try to abuse. You fuck it up and you just trade it off. I've had those things upside down in a creek trying to find the kill switch under water with a full face helmet and gloves on. Good times.

yeah the market is super competitive for good techs right now. Hard to find 'em. Hard to retain 'em.

Funny you say that because they laid off several of their techs from what I understand.

Land Rover dealerships were also desperate for techs up until COVID, but I know a bunch of very experienced techs that have been laid off. Shops can’t find techs because they treat them like crap.

I shed 2 techs and used covid as an excuse. Covid is kind of messing up my workload, but I could use one more good tech. Or 2 half good. I'm better off without the 2 I blew out of here. I have work to keep everybody busy, but it's all shit work on the Land Rover Jag side. Volvo seems to be doing a little better. It's just that people are only fixing what they absolutely have to do to keep rolling.
