I recently did LCAs (+front air struts) on mine just over 160k but they’d been replaced at least once before. Opted for the Meyle HD arms so hopefully these last me a good while. Had a friend replace uppers on his but it is not super common

One of my friends bought a LR4 from a customer. It looks like one of the heads has to come off it for a valve train issue.
That truck will be for sale for under 10K. Right now as it sits he’s been offered 3 grand. Pretty sure it’s a 2012. I think it’s got 140K miles on it.

Yes, upper & lowers were shot. I could feel it and hear it and brought it to my mechanic’s attention at my 105k service a couple weeks ago. The control arm service was a few bucks under $3k. Each arm was about $440. 4 arms, plus labor, plus 4-wheel alignment.

Well the lowers are a clunk when you hit a bump or jounce the front end by hitting the brakes at parking lot speeds.
Not sure what an upper would feel like in the front. But in the rear it makes the ass end of the truck shift with steering input.

Felt and heard a clunk and sloppy steering wheel at low speeds on bumps like rocky trails, parking lot potholes, or the neighborhood curb in front of my driveway. Now that they have been replaced, the steering is tighter and...."thicker" and it handles better at low and high speeds. The steering and front end were a bit rattly on the highway and the whole truck shimmied a bit, like unbalanced wheels. I had just installed new tires all around so I knew it wasn't an unbalanced tire issue. I had assumed the lowers and was a bit surprised when he said uppers too. He said the bushings were all shot to shit. He also said lowers had been replaced before but not uppers. This repair shop is a great shop, very trustworthy and fair. Great reputation around town. They did all the maintenance and repair work on my 2004 D2 from about 2010 onward. I gave them more money on that damn D2 than the purchase price of my LR4.

Just got home and checked my receipt.

RH Lower Arm - $466.58
LH Lower Arm - $461.97
RH Upper Arm - $414.25
LH Upper Arm - $405.42

6 hours labor - $840.00

4 Wheel Computerized Alignment - $169.95 (billed as labor)

Labor - $1009.95
Parts - $1748.22
Tax - $140.73
Total - $2898.90. Guess it was a bit under $2900, not $3k.

This is north Scottsdale so it’s not unreasonable at all. I wonder what Land Rover North Scottsdale would’ve charged?

I’m sure you can figure they’re at 200 an hour. Looks like you paid list for parts. Yeah he’s gotta make money or you’re gonna need to find another shop. It’s gotta be brutal to turn a profit if you have guys working for you and a real nice shop in a good location.

This is mine now. Did not have to take the head off. Just the valve cover. Now it runs great but the timing chains are loud.
I’m going to be right around 10 grand on this. Depends on what I have to spend on parts. I’ve got a list of stuff I’m going to sort out then sell it.

Odd that they left the door handles silver with all that effort into black cars matter
