It appears my rebuilt steering box won’t accept the hex nut on the drop arm. Does anyone know what the thread size / pitch is? It looks like I’m going to need to get a die for it.

For reference, the nut is: NT614041L

In the photo, its the threads on the right hand side.

Now that I've answered the question, the real problem ought to be discussed. If the threads on the shaft and in the nut are not buggered up, they will spin together without issue. If I received a rebuilt box with damaged threads, it'd be going back versus buying a die I may use only once. If the rebuilder didn't have the sense to not use that shaft, then what else did they overlook/skip/ignore?

Thanks @Jimmy . I’m pretty sure this was an issue with shipping - everything else looked to be pretty good. I don’t mind getting the die, even if its used once, but it is really annoying to have to deal with this.

If there was anything else wrong, I would send it back. I opted to get this rebuilt locally due to the common complaints with import units, but now im wondering if I made the right decision.

For reference, here is the shaft (Snapped a photo today). It’s clear how jacked the bottom 2 threads are. The more I look at it, the more it seems they didn’t track the threads at all during the rebuild.

For something like that, I'd use a thread file. I have no idea if they exist for UNF and UNC, but an internet search would tell you that.

Appreciate the input. I think you’re right - a thread file or chaser should do the trick.

Another question: what is the “L” suffix on some of the LR parts? Is that LHD? For example, the hex nut on the sector shaft has two parts available: NT614041L and NT614041. Both appear to be the same, but are they?
