hes right a timming belt is a timming belt we do timming belts on everything we just follow the procedure in the book. Its not an easy one to do this one but with the right tools any job can be done.

frickjp do you want the pdf ? still trying to figure what you meant ?

You'll find that the tensioner and idler are probably not good enough to use again- and many people opt for a fresh water pump too while in there. First time you do one, plan for a couple days of down time- they go faster after that, but 6hrs on the first time would be rushing it a bit.

tks steve ! i will take that into consideration the book is always a bit tight.I will replace everything don't want to be going back in there again if i don,t have too.

hows your claim comming along ?

While this is pretty much standard on some models, others treat it differently. There's no way in Hell I would change a belt on my own crash motor without doing it all. However, Lexus changes the belt. Period. They're not crash motors.
At our LR dealer, we changed the belt. And only the main belt, not the two smaller belts. The management was pretty ignorant on things mechanical, so that's the way they sold the job. While I never agreed with it, none have yet bit them in the ass that I know of. That would never be my recommendation, just my experience.

Right now we're at 50/50 for the ones we've done as to whether the pullies show so much physical damage that we MUST replace them. Even the ones that didn't have overt damage, we wanted to replace them, but the car owner couldn't see the value in those 'invisible' parts.

When left to their own devices, an idiot will always founder and fail. Then, they'll sue you for their own stupidity.

Just my 2 cents, lately i have been seeing A LOT of freelanders with blown motors show up at salvage auctions. Most of these are ones people blew the motors on then quit making payments. These tend to have 70-100k on them. I talked to a guy i know who is a pretty open and honest guy and he told me that these cars are very sensitive to having their timing belts not changed and can go down easily. Can i swear what he said is the reason? No Can I tell you I have seen a pile of these in the last few months? Yes. IMHO Get your timing belt changed at 70-75K no matter how much they charge its less than the 2500 plus install for a used motor (I don't want to think about a new one). Hope this saves some of you some hassle

i will second this i was told my a LR parts guy the same thing.My warranty runs out in 5ks and i have 45 k on mine and will trade it in soon before the warranty runs out.
I just saw the LR2 its pretty nice but in Canada full package is 51k canadian ouch !
thats with GPS of course and its 45 k pretyy loaded.

Well freelander certainly has the look...but the LR2 to me looks just like a mercury mariner...they all seem the same to me...I know LR2 and freelander do have low gearing though.

i just picked up a LR2 last Monday and have had for a week.
Well i have not seen a mercury mariner but i have seen a mazda tribute
and the LR2 is a lot nicer than those trucks.Handles great more HP and with the lux package its pretty nice.I would not buy another freelander but the LR2 is perfect for what it is.A daily driver with all the goodies TC,TR,and oversteering control or something.8 air bags and would i take offroading maybe on a very easy trail but my wife would not let me because its her car LOL;)

Yo!

Contact one of the shop guys and see if you can get them to do it for you. It will be done right and cost you about half as much on labor, which is where all the bread is made for the dealer. The labor is probably 95 or so bucks per hour! You can get it done for less by asking the right questions to the right service guy.
